What determines which teams have to sign these has-beens and never-was's and which teams are allowed to postpone?

Technically no one ever "has" to be under the 8-player minimum. Yet some teams are forced to trot out these lineups they never intended to play and go be cannon fodder for other teams.

Meanwhile, other teams are allowed to take a break. What's the "rule"?

Literally has nothing to do with a teams medical staff. Its more on the players and what they do and who they congregate with in their private lives

Bridges, Collins, Crowder, Tatum, Green, Ball, Lowry, Murray - in last 2 days. I give one or max two weeks and we will have a break.

I hope we don’t have a break. Simply because I really don’t think things will be improving anytime soon. If we take a break, I don’t think we will be coming back anytime soon.

I’d rather push through with the replacement players with the hope we get competitive basketball when it matters in 3-4 months.

Why are the Hawks still forced to sign guys to avoid postponements? None of this makes any sense.

And maybe them playing sports together full of sweaty contact on a daily basis might have some impact as well?

Exactly.

And how is it that these 10-day randos are cleared to play the day of games, but guys can't clear HASP until they return 18 negative tests in 7 consecutive days or w/e it is?

I hope my guy Tatum has a better experience with COVID than he did last season. Wasn't himself for quite a while after he came back and had to start using an inhaler.

It's the new system the NBA put in.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32907444/nba-nbpa-agree-allow-teams-short-handed-covid-19-sign-replacement-players-memo-says

"Under the agreement, a team will be allowed to sign a replacement player for each positive COVID-19 case that crops up across its roster. So, if a team has five positive cases of COVID-19, for example, it could sign five replacement players.

Meanwhile, teams will have to sign at least one replacement player if they have two positive COVID-19 cases; at least two if they have three positive COVID-19 cases; and at least three if they have four or more positive COVID-19 cases... Any replacement players who are signed also won't count toward a team's yearly salary and won't add to its potential luxury tax payment".

seriously, i feel all nba players will be positive for at least twice or three times in 2 or 3 years span and after this it will be the end of covid era... for example, Colins was playing the last game and players he contacted were all subject to be infected ... and if some players in this cohort are still negative now, they will keep playing and infect others and just like a chain reaction, at the end, all nba players and staffs will be positive at least once

Pretty sure its Omicron. Omicron has an extremely high infection rate, even if vaccinated, even if youve gotten Covid before.

Basically, to put it bluntly. Likely every single person in this country is going to catch Omicron. Vaccinated or not.

Hawks now have THIRTEEN PLAYERS out. This is laughable. We literally have zero point guards or power forwards able to play and that includes the fake scrub players they signed.
