Re: World Championship Power Rankings
Oh yeah, Slovenia is too high. Having them at 8 means they'll be in quarterfinals and for that to happen they'd have to beat Brazil and Croatia to avoid Argentina or Serbia in the best of 16 round.

Its a power ranking not a prediction
Also beating Croatia is totally doable even in our current crappy state, because they are not doing too hot either. Beating Brazil however is another story

LMAO at Spain being No.1. Like only one guy on their roster can even start for his NBA team. All the other scrubs on that team would have a hard time making a Division III college team. USA will smoke every team they play by far. Our worst player( Love) would be Spain's best player.

I bet you said the same exact thing in 2006.
I don't see this USA team winning squat. They are way too flawed.

I was trying to understand the logic behind listing Serbia after the likes of Greece, and particularly Brazil, albeit my intellect failed on me.

Vujanic is not even in camp. The name should read "Markovic".

Hey smart guy, here is a team for you, how good do you think it would do? Here are their stats for the season they had:
Joe Johanson 20ppg 6.5apg 4rpg
Kirk Hinrich 16ppg 6apg 3.5rpg
Lebron James 31ppg 7apg 6.6rpg
Antawn Jamison 21ppg 9rpg 2apg
Shane Battier 10ppg 5rpg 2apg
Dwyane Wade 27ppg 7apg 6rpg
Chris Paul 16ppg 8apg 5rpg
Chris Bosh 23ppg 9rpg 2apg
Dwight Howard 16ppg 13rpg 1apg
Brad Miller 15ppg 8rpg 5apg
Elton Brand 25ppg 10rpg 2.5apg
Carmelo Anthony 26ppg 5rpg 2.5apg
How do you think this team did, and look at the season these players had. Now compare this team to the team USA is sending this year...Now think about it in silence for a bit then come back and answer.

Re: World Championship Power Rankings
Brazil has a good team, but it´s not a top4. Maybe a top6. We hired a world class coach in Ruben Magnano (Argentina ´02) and we got, for the first time, our best players together (only possible starter PG Valtinho declined, due personal reasons), but I still think we´re not a team...well, let´s hope for the best.

Re: World Championship Power Rankings
Just compare rosters..
2008: Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Tayshaun Prince, Michael Redd, Deron Williams.
2010: Rondo, Rose, Westbrook, Billups, Curry, Iguodala, Gay, Granger, Durant, Odom, Chandler, Love.
Not saying Argentina will win or joking about those loses, but trying to show you how US team lost when the best 12 players didn't play..
So, you shouldn't underestimate Spain team because they don't have more than 1 starter in the NBA o staff like that, because Argentina didn't have it in those days and they beat the Dream Team, twice..

Re: World Championship Power Rankings
USA fan here.
One of the biggest differences between the USA teams of the early-mid 2000s and now is the discipline and chemistry. If I'm not mistaken, most of the guys on Team USA that will probably go to Turkey were basically around for tryouts in '08. I'll try and see if this is true, but I'm sure most of these guys have wanted to represent their country for a while. This year's team is nowhere near the '04 Olympic team, where they allegedly stayed in their hotel rooms.
It's more like the '08 team mentally, that actually saw some sun once in a while, and saw some of the attractions of Beijing. Granted, none of the '08 roster is on this one, but it's still high-caliber NBA players that play for Team USA. So, the talent's still there. The speed is still there. The DEFENSE is still there. Ask China and France about that; China only scored 51, France 55.
Yes, our bigs rotations is thing. We only have 3, for one thing. But, two in Odom and Love can spread the floor offensively, while Chandler will be the defensive enforcer.
Rondo's one of the better PGs as far as distributing the ball in the NBA. Combine with shooters like Curry, Gay, Durant, Billups, or Gordon, and I think USA's about to have them some fun offensively. When I say we're a different team than years past, this is what I mean; our offense will be better at distributing the ball around the court.
Combine that with the defense, and I can't see why we're not at least top 2 in the Worlds. We just need to play as a team and not as if it's an All-Star game.
