Rondo shooting is underrated on this board. He isn't great but he can make a shot. Jason Kidd went almost the entire Olympic tournament without even taking a shot.

His ability to actually run a team is what will be missed. The question now will be can we execute half court offense.

Whats the point of taking a truckload of shooters when you do not have a great passer and facilitator like Rondo on the team? Whos gonna create shots for these shooters?

Rose is more than capable of dribble penetrating and kicking out to open shooters. If you haven't noticed, there isn't much 'set offense' being played by USA.

The team is doomed to fail. No true facilitator on the team now. Rondo may be the worst shooting PG on the team, but he's the best facilitator of the bunch. If he withdrew, that's too bad because the team really needed him. If he was cut, it was a really dumb decision. Having both Gordon and Curry on the team is redundancy to the max.

Rondo wears Reebok ..... (Nike doing their thing again?)

Rondo hasn't worn Reebok in like 2 years, he's been with Nike for quite some time

Read the quotes from coach K. This is the same as multiple other people who were let go. They always withdraw to save face. He was cut.

OKC now officially has the most players on team USA! Doesn't really mean anything, but it sounds cool to say. OKC makes up 1/6th of the team

I'm worried about the lack of a true facilitator on the team as well. I foresee a lot of iso plays for team USA in the near future, and that prospect isn't very appealing to me at all.

My theory on why he was cut is primarily predicated on his dominant/abrasive personality. If coach K preferred Rose, which he undoubtedly has from the start it seems to me, perhaps he feared that there would be a clash along the way when Rondo saw that his pt was being curtailed at the expense of Rose.

It doesn't make sense to me that he would be cut because of his lack of shooting. Team USA brass had to know that he can't shoot a lick from his body of work from this past season and the years prior. Why waste the kid's time if you know that his shooting would be an existential impediment to his making the team? Rondo has a very stringent personality (euphemistically speaking), and that probably was his major downfall in this instance.

Because they put a lot of young players on the roster and the rest of them could have bombed out. Obviously this was a point guard audition.

To be fair to Arenas, he actually did injure his groin about a week before he was cut, so the explanation wasn't an outright lie. He was headed to the chopping block anyway most likely, but the excuse wasn't completely fictional like some have come to believe.

Ok, did Coach K praise him like Rondo did?

I mean, again, Rondo did have to go to a funeral for a family member while on Team USA. I can assume from the article that Arenas didn't really have a groin injury.

I mean, if Rondo comes out and says he was really cut, then fine, he was cut. Henry Abbott saying "sometime" and only citing Arenas has one time is interesting, but I'd rather look at this case-by-case.
