This is utterly ridiculous.

Why? The best chess players in the world are men, as well the bridge players. Obviously, poker as well. The best woman chess player in the world is Judit Polgar, she's actually from my country. It's well known that she's the GOAT, everybody considers her the greatest woman chess player ever. We love her, and she's playing amongst men for about, i don't know, more than a decade i think. Needless to say, even though she has great results, she has no chance against the absolute elite.

Judit Polgar was a top ten player in the 2000s. And she's beaten the greatest ever, Kasparov, more than a couple times.

1996: The US Women's Basketball team trained by scrimmaging against guys at the local YMCA. They won about half the time, lost about half the time. That team had some of the greatest women's players ever - Lisa Leslie, Dawn Staley, Sheryl Swoopes, Teresa Edwards, etc. Later that year, they won the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in dominant fashion. Their closest game was a 15 point win over Japan, and their average margin of victory was 28 points.

You're basically saying that "random YMCA guy" could absolutely play in the NBA.

Also -
When Ann Meyers (now Ann Meyers-Drysdale) tried out for the Pacers, the coach told her she needed about 6" and 40-lbs more to have a viable shot of making an NBA roster. So Griner, at her size, would need skills comparable to Ann Meyers - the best women's guard to ever play, and arguably the overall women's GOAT - to even have a chance at a roster.

Sarcasm doesn't travel well over the internet eh?

I'm not sure where I was supposed to see sarcasm, considering TheAnkh has been defending the ridiculous position he/she took. Trolling != sarcasm.

Also - no, it doesn't.

Yes, altough that was a rapid match, if i read correctly. Neverthless, she couldn't win any of the biggest tournaments yet (amongs men, obviously), as well as the absolute world championship, and there are still no woman world champion (they're allowed to play), Judit was the closest to achieve it, she got to the 8 place FIDE WC, but as you probably know, finished last, 8th place. Don't get me wrong, she's wonderful, and we're proud of her, but even though she managed to beat some of the best players in the world on occasions, she still has very slim chance to be world champion.

Yeah but with the ratio of competitive womens to mens players its probably statistically irregular that a women was even in the top 10. Hell, Judit is probably better than any American born player ever outside of Fischer...

This thread is just stupid.

What position would she play? SG? SF?

She would get abused on defense...as EVERY (even the scrub) NBA SG and SF would be stronger and more athletic. She could no guard 95% of them. And on the other side of the ball...what is she going to do on offense? Post them up? At 175lbs? She would pushed so far out of the paint that she would find herself in the 3rd row.....and that is only "if" some help defense didn't come over and throw her ish into the upper decks.
Jealousy is a sickness.......get well soon....

If you check the number of women aspiring to to highest level of chess and compare it with no of men, you will have your why. If you plan to examine it that way, then go ahead ans check which nationality has the best overall chess party determining who are the nowadays ubermensch.

As far as athletic gifts are concerned it's obvious women are inferior in most areas.
I don't watch her play, but from what I noticed from watching women basketball is that
they are definitely slender so if there's a woman who could play in the NBA she would have to
play 1-2 spots. Talent pool is also way way behind, there are not that many women interested
in becoming pro players so that hurts overall lvl as well.

So can any of you who stupidly think a female could play in the NBA explain the salary question?

The maximum salary for a WNBA player is 100k, the minimum in the NBA is 400k. Why would this female who is apparently capable of making 4 times what she is making choose to play in the WNBA?

And please don't give me any crap about sponsorship, because 1) WNBA bitches get no sponsorship 2) A female who could some how make it into the NBA would be the most sponsored female athlete outside of the beautiful Serena Williams and her sexy booty.

LMFAO at Brittany Griner being a better athlete than Steve Nash...that may be ... no it is officially the DUMBEST thing I have ever read. In my entire life. Bar none.

1)Steve Nash is one of if not the best all around athlete in the NBA..Hand eye coordination, agility, speed, endurance, bodily control, core strength are all part of being athletic. Not just size.

of course..Steve Nash at 178 pounds is BIGGER than Brittney Griner at 175 pounds...but ahh..you know.. who cares about facts right?

Actually men are at the highest levels smarter than women. Percentage wise, far more men score in the genious range of IQ scores than women. And also at the mentally (Please Use More Appropriate Word) level as well. Which is why men are better at chess.

LOL @ this thread.

Brittany Griner in the NBA? Uhhh, NO. Not only would she get destroyed in every fascet of the game, but who exactly would she guard? A PG that weighs 10lbs more than her who can run circles around her? Or Dwight Howard, who could pick her up with his pinky, twirl her around, and toss her back to the WNBA where she belongs.

MASSIVE fail for anybody who argues against this.

Not only this but he is in his late 30's playing 82 game seasons, making the postseason, while she plays what 30 games a year at age 20? You can't compare the athletic abilities of the two.

lol @ this thread. Seriously she can play in the nba? Why she's tough because she takes cheap shots?

Or is it because she likes girls too.

Can't agree enough with you. What's really funny is whenever one of these threads pop up there's always that one guy who feels the need to go against the grain and give these ultra PC bullsh*t answers. Brittney Griner would never even get off the bench on a D3 college team let alone an NBA team.

And let's get one thing straight. Steve Nash is a great athlete. Maybe his athletic talents don't stand out in the NBA but his abilities still far exceed that of a WNBA player.

To answer the OP's question: No

There are a countless number of 6'8" male players (who are more skilled, stronger and athletic than Griner) in the world who could dunk the ball during a women's college game and yet can't even sniff the NBA.

I have a better idea, let's see Nate Robinson play in the WNBA. He'd make a good SG in that league.
