I agree that Kansas wasn't the best choice to exemplify what he's fully capable of. On the other hand I love how he's going out of his way to conform to the team anyways. Speaks about his character, work ethic, and ability to adapt to any situation he's thrown in.

I couldn't leave Embiid on the board if i'd have the first pick, but i would choose Wiggins before Parker, Exum, and Randle without much hesitation. I don't think you can ever choose a top 3 pick by how NBA ready they are, or how high their "floor" is, you go for upside, every single time.

I really struggle with the "his game is more suited to the NBA" stuff for Wiggins. The only move he has in the half-court that works is when he initiates contact off his first-step and gets to the line. This only works because he's quicker than the guys defending him and I think that could go away in the NBA. He can't finish against small centers in college so I also really struggle to see how he's going to succeed against Dwight Howard and Roy Hibbert in the NBA.

I kind of see a Rudy Gay with elite defense.

His absolute worst case scenario if he bottoms out is Corey Brewer.

I personally believe he has the goods and will be a perennial All-Star for the next decade+.

As far as I've seen, he needs to dramatically improve his shot, ball handling and develop some go to moves if he's going to have success in the NBA. That and put on weight, if he plays the 3.

I'll give you the ball handling concern. But he's already good shooter and he already has a dribble drive spin move that is impossible to defend.

If only there was some way to become stronger.

It sucks Toronto won't be getting him but I'd love to see him on the sixers squad.

to me, wiggins actually has an head start on parker and randle in the pros because you could drop him in a game right now and he would be able to guard his own position. parker can't guard the 3 and randle can't guard the 4.

too much is made of his shooting. 34% from deep on 3+ attemps a game and 74% from the line is actually very good for a college freshman known for his slashing. there's no hitch in his release - he'll be a very solid shooter in the pros.

if he only wanted to showcase his game, he would have gone to UK.

Worst case: super-athletic Luol Deng
Best case: slightly better Paul George

I agree he WAS over rated before the season, but now that has died down a ton and he is rated properly. He is a ELITE athletic who might be good one day because of that.

He's a first or second pick overall. His athletic ability is unmatched. He has the height, the quickness, and the skills to be a superstar if he has the work ethic. My only question is his leadership qualities.

As usual people only look at ONE side of the ball and completely ignore defense.

Hope this is not another sullinger vs. robinson debate - Sully fans were right - he is better than robinson.

Muscles doesn't mean wins - Other than MJ, the best players weren't overly athletic. BIrd was weak, Mchale too. Hakeem was so so and Magic had court instinct

Individual defense is way overrated. Especially when the player is only a perimeter player and not anchoring the respective D (= not a center).
I've come to the conclusion that most folks don't really care that you broke one of the rules... they just enjoy telling you that you broke it.

Remember that even Michael Jordan wasn't particularly dominant in college...He had huge potential though, and so does Wiggins. In fact, Andrew compares rather favorably to Michael at the same age...I'm NOT saying that Wiggins will necessarily become a superstar right away in the NBA, but he's definitely one of the best prospects in recent years.

The Michael Jordan that was all american twice, and was player if the year over Ewing and Hakeem? That Jordan?

First and foremost: Defense. Also quickness, work rate, poise and passing.

Ben Mclemore and Terrance Ross were both projected to be great defenders at the next level because of their all star level quickness.

As for passing, Wiggins is averaging around the same assists per 40 as Mclemore and Ross during their freshman years.

IMO his defense and athleticism makes him a top pick prospect period. But I wouldn't take him number 1 due to the flaws that have been pointed out and so many amazing athletes before him that have failed miserably.

I need to see more skill from him then fast break dunks and I haven't seen much. Definitely not enough to draft him number 1.

PG is not a bad comparison. But PG was lucky enough to end up on a quality team with quality player development.

R.I.P. the Wiggins legacy if he ends up in the wrong situation. I won't name any names lol...

And as far as the other top picks like Jabari and Embiid etc. I think they have more lee-way to succeed even in those situations because they're already coming into the league with a defined skill set and team role...

Wiggins is a big question mark right about now. He's an athletic defender, but how do you fit him into your offense?

I think staying another year in college would be great for him and his development. But obviously that's extremely unlikely.
