So he couldn't get mad at being underpaid and leave them as an unrestricted FA in the summer of '15...oops.magicfan4life05 wrote:What was the advantage of letting him become a restricted FA now vs FA next year?
I like Morey a lot still, but this was just an epic blunder. He's botched this off-season that he set them up for incredibly well so badly.

Rockets, please still be good enough to make the playoffs but be the 8th seed.

Reminder: this didn't need to happen. Parsons didn't need to be a RFA.
So, good luck Morey. Maybe the second time around Ariza will work out.

I thought you couldn't do a sign & trade after the player has already signed an offer sheet

Don't forget that 1st round pick that they gave away to the Lakers for the privelage of taking Lin

I agree but maintaining flexibility is what's gotten the rockets this far, so morey is sticking to his plan of saving room for a 3rd star.. I think he doesn't believe that the current roster with Parsons as the third best player could win the championship so he's sticking to his strategy. It'll piss off some rockets fans but I respect his long term perspective of ultimately trying to win a championship.

How far have they gotten? First round exit? This is an absolute nightmare offseason for Houston, I admire your optimism but it really looks like denial at this point.
Lost Lin, Asik, first round pick and Parsons for... Ariza. Sorry dude that's terrible. Howard doesn't care about future flexibility, he wants to win now. Always saving for the future, and never locking in and committing to a team. That seems to be Morey in a nutshell.

The way rocket fans blindly follow morey is so cute. He can do no wrong in their eyes. Almost cult like.

Funniest part is the rockets could have easily traded Asik/Parsons/Jones for a stud PF
You don't think Atlanta bites on Parsons/Asik for Milsap? They take that seven days a week and twice on Sunday

Thank you Houston for taking Dallas out of the picture to offer Lance a deal. Looks like Lance may have to take Indy's offer of 9 million per for 5 years, Charlotte is reportedly not interested and Lance doesn't want to leave and go to an uncompetitive team <3.

And do they still have room for that third star?
They spent $8m on Ariza and are working a sign and trade so they can get the MLE and BAE.
I think their free agency plans are over.

Every time you get to see a young player develop and improve, there is a good chance he will be on another roster within a few years.
Troy Daniels might be a gem though imho
A solid role player off the bench, maybe. Far from a "gem" imo.
I don't know. If he stays consistent, you have to say he's an elite shooter.
Losing Parsons is devastating for Houston. I fully expect him to be an allstar next year and Dallas's best player. Yeah I said it. I think the kid is a legitimate stud.

Maybe that TPE can help us land a starting PG, who knows. T-Jones could be the real deal at PF, but Beverley is not the answer at point.

Actually, I'm sure the Rockets would have matched Parsons if Bosh was already on the team.
Supposedly, the Rockets wouldn't match Parsons' big contract because it would've financially handcuffed them from building a contender. But if Bosh was already on the team, then Parson's big contract wouldn't matter. They would already be contenders. Furthermore, if Bosh had joined the Rockets the team would not have enough cap room to sign Ariza. They would have badly needed Parsons just so they'd have a small forward on the roster.
