If Iggy is getting paid $12 mil/ season (too busy to look up his exact salary this minute) than Green is definitely worth $14 mil. Some team will pay him.

I think that's the problem with the whole "max contract", sounds bad, thing is in a 86ish (+-2m) the cap will be in next 2 sseasons, 14/y is roughly 17% of your cap, is a player who does what Dray is doing, who fixes a lot of holes on your defense, and has a valuable role on offense (hitting the open 3, stretching the floor, good passing on the break, good cuts, very good blind picks, overall good off ball movement) worth 17% of your cap??? absolutely yes, if you want to compete for the champioship, of course.

In RGM there has been always this issue when talking about players salaries, i said it often, RGM kinda hates NBA players, so the perception is all of them are overpaid, even when rationalizing they know is not true, there is a subliminal disgust on players getting high salaries, doesnt matter that at the end, its a 0 sum game, players will receive 50% of the cake and nothing else, for many people that is hard to grasp.

At the end, you should think of it this way, do i value this player for 17% of the cap? if the answer is yes, the amount, being 3 million or 30 million does not matter.

GSW seems to expect they pay in the area of $10-12 mill. That's a lot for a guy who's a tweener-undersize PF. It's a lot for a guy who does not rack up the numbers as a shoot-score guy. When it comes to ' Jack Of All Trades" he is VERY good. He is a beautiful fit for GSW. Does that get him a BIG $$ deal? Not quite. Short of the 7 ft shotblockers.. guys do not get huge $ for D and "the little things". Guys mostly get paid top dollar because they SCORE. Racking up assists and rebounds..playing D.. obviously enhances that. Even so....Whatever team..they have so much $ to play with. If you want a 20 ppg shooter.. THAT is gonna cost. A jack of all trades? Good to have but you don't see teams throw the big $ at those guys.. those guys do not go high in the draft..they are who you pick as a "sleeper" later on. GSW will put something around $10-12 mill on the table. I doubt anyone bids higher. If they do...and I ain't even sure what max is for him.. GSW PROBABLY would match. There is a point where you have to look at the whole costs.. how cap/lux stuff adds up now and later. There's a significant difference in $12 mill and $15 mill. Being High Bid on one guy can block you from some other guy . If you have 5-6 guys at $12-15 mill...or more.. that adds up. Curry WILL be up for a fat raise. Klay just got a fat raise. Barnes gets paid about as Lee expires...what if he gets hot next year?

Let's play the "let's hand out max contracts based on ESPN's RPM" game.

Based on last season's RPM
Channing Frye (RPM +10.83) was #14 in the league, and deserving of a max contract. He was ahead of Tim Duncan, Dwight Howard, James Harden, and Lillard.

Gratz Orlando on your superstar!

IF he gets max, with Thompson getting the max, and David Lee at $15mil, if im Steph Curry, im like WTF!!!!

Thompson's contract is not even a real max. If Green got true max, he would eventually get paid more than Klay.

Difference is not all of those guys impact the game in pretty much every area of the floor.

scoring
rebounding
passing
defending most positions
make threes

that is why he could get the max. I hope he doesn't of course.

Good points. Guys who are GOOD get paid. Period. However.. if you hand out MAX deals like it's trick or treat candy... odds are you end up with guys who are enough overpaid to have negative value.. are eating up too much of team payroll. On this list? Maybe 2-3 guys where you'd take the risk. Some... no way in hell. ALL these will get well paid.. but ... practical reality.. you can't give Max to a guy who's your 3rd or 4th best player.

Those players dont even have the same max.

0-6 years of service
max is quite a bit lower than 7-9 and 10+
players have not peaked yet
salary cap is going up.

Those 3 reasons say players of 0-6 years will get maxed out next year. butler/kawhi are 100% locks. Green isnt far behind.

Do not be fooled into thinking that he is a Scoring threat or he is a good 3 point shooter...

I think you really didnt not you understood what I meant to make you realize...

Let me explain you in the other way... you are in a draft day and you have the 1st pick to build a team (assuming you don't have any players) and you have this prospects:

Jimmy Butler
Kawhi Leonard
Goran Dragic
Rajon Rondo
DeAndre Jordan
Greg Monroe
Reggie Jackson
Monta Ellis
Paul Millsap
Brandon Knight
Luol Deng
Wesley Matthews
Tobias Harris
Tyson Chandler
Jonas Valanciunas
Taj Gibson
DeMarre Carroll
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Markieff Morris
Trevor Ariza
Donatas Motiejunas
Jeff Green
Tyreke Evans
Jrue Holiday
Serge Ibaka

Who you take first and where you thinka team would take him?
Come back to the real world and imagine does all players that where drafted before him are Max deal players...

Look I'm disagreeing with that notion.

But the point is GMs these days look at what you can do. Green can do everything well. Can he do it great? no but these days It's clear GM's are looking at what you can bring to a team. Should he be a max guy? no clearly not. I have never said he should get max.

It would hurt the Warriors if he did but you have to see why you can teams could offer him that deal. It all depends on who else you have on your team. Clearly if you have no superstar or star he won't help you being a number 1 or 2 guy.

Would be amazing if he settled for 9 million but I can see offers over 11 at least.

I can name more than 100 players who are better than him in this league. To me he is a guy that can take something like 10 million per year contract but not the max deal.... For example i can bring to you the Chandler Parsons deal. do you think the Mavs would give a 15 million contract to Chandler Parsons if Dirk didn't take the parsons kind of money?

I hope the 100 players you can name are not in the list you posed 2 posts earlier, because I would take Draymond over at least 15 of those guys.

In terms of age, defensive value, and the amount the max would be, Green is most similar to the first two (not quite as good), who are almost certainly going to get the max.

Yeah Butler and Leonard are getting max deals. No chance they don't given their age and improvement.
