Slightly more than Knight, Slightly less than Dragic. He had no suitors for the same reason that all of the other restricted free agents had no suitors.

In a world where Carroll gets 15, Lopez get 13+, Monta gets 11, Reggie was always going to get his.

Knight's (Which is major lulz) and Dragic's deals set the market for PGs this year.

Jackson did well his last 20 or so games here, now that he's got what he needs (Preseason, camp, money to burn), let's see if he can live up to it.

And I'm shocked that people would rather Knight over Jackson. Knight is inconsistent, lacks the iq needed for a PG, and has a bunch of other flaws that have been stated here. Only time Knight has looked good was whenever he plays Kyrie Irving.

Makes you realize how much Rondo lost with his antics in Dallas.

Top 5 pg, and all star this season. Thread bookmarked for the metric ton of crow that shall be served.

17-20ppg
9-12apg
4-5rpg

(It would be wise to check his stats with detroit before responding. He only got better, the more familiar he became with his teammates. His last 23 games he put up 18 10 and 4.5)

You guys are crazy, Knight and Dragic set the market for Reggie and he got paid right between them as he should have. Maybe some of you weren't paying attention but let's look at what all 3 PGs did for their teams after getting traded.

Knight: 11 games, 13.4 points and 4.5 assists per game with a 10.5 player efficiency rating, according to Basketball Reference. A bum ankle sidelined him at the end of the season.

■ Dragic: 26 games, 16.6 points and 5.3 assists with an 18.8 rating.

■ Jackson: 26 games, 17.6 points and 9.2 assists with a 19.8 rating.

Reggie also had the best AST% in the league in that time frame, 2 triple doubles and a 23 PT and 20 AST game as well.

For some bizzaro reason, everyone hates jackson, but loves dragic, even though dragic is the lesser player.

It's downright insanity taking over. Reggie is even being paid less. Couldn't be happier. Reminds me alot of when we got Billups. Almost the exact same things were said, and look how that turned out. The Cycle Begins anew. Love it.

For non-Pistons fans balking, this had to be done. Reggie was pretty bad when he immediately got traded to us, but the second Monroe got injured (literally the first game he was out) and he was replaced with a stretch four (Anthony Tolliver, pretty much the poorest stretch four you can get), the offense became dynamic and he started dropping efficient triple doubles...

So, with how the Pistons are set up (can't tank at this point and can't get a guaranteed better PG in free agency), they need to gamble that that is what Jackson truly is, and the market value for a starting point was already set by Knight and Dragic.

I don't know if Reggie is that player or not, but it's a gamble Detroit has to take to someday be championship level.

I'm confused. Why is it consensus that this is a bad deal?

You want the max? Be a bench guard for the Thunder! (ok Harden might deserve it)

I like that they got him for the full 5; this could look really cheap by '17. I think they could've played hardball with him though, what suitors were left?

Top 5 pg? Honestly? He's the third best PG in his own division.

Only two teams that need a pg are Phillly and Dallas, Dallas couldn't afford him.

I think we just wanted to pay him what we felt his market value was. We went through the samething with Moose last season and lost playing hardball. No one was going to make a offer because they knew we would match just like with Monroe. It would have looked pretty bad if we would have done it with both our top FAs 2 years in a row.

You could say that about any restricted free agent though. No one was going to offer Tobias Harris a contract because Orlando would just match. So does Orlando just wait until no one has cap room and lowball him? Doesn't work that way. He'd probably just pull a Monroe and leave next year. (not that we wanted to keep him)

My guess is that this contract was done last week when there still was potential suitors anyways. Reggie is a better player than Brandon Knight, that was always going to be the floor.

Just because this guy asked me to I did check the stats. In 27 games he had a VORP at league average. A ws/48 barely over league average and usage rate off the charts. He had a completely un-sustainable ast% at 51.2 (though this statistic is completely subjective and is an estimate). His TS was 51% which isnt bad but only shot 33% from 3 and hoisted an average of 5 a game. The most alarming thing that stood out was his FGA average of 19.8. Which is really high for someone who doesnt shoot well. The Knight contract comparison isnt bad but just because one guy gets overpaid doesnt mean they all should. He did have a nice stretch of games where he was impressive but a 17 game stretch does not make a career. Or declare someone a top anything in the league. Im far from a Goran Dragic fan but to compare a guy to someone who has a 3rd team all NBA and a career VORP higher than the career best (or PER if youre a Hollinger guy) is a very slippery slope.
