Not really a phrase but I really dislike it when commentators start praising players for things aren't really worthy of special mention.

For example, I remember at one point Kevin Durant said that he doesn't go out clubbing before games, and commentators around the league were drooling over how responsible this was of him. Or when CP3's trade to LAL got rescinded, and reports were flocking around to praise Paul's professionalism for showing up for practice with NOLA after the offseason.

It's the equivalent of a boss at any other company going "thanks for showing up at your 20 mil USD a year job Paul!" "And you, Kevin, I have noticed that you haven't been showing up for work hungover and reeking of booze - way to go beyond the call of duty there buddy!"

It's actually kind of insulting how low these commentators set the bar for commendable achievements for these athletes.

"[Insert player here] has the killer instinct! They don't shy away from the moment!"

Usually, what's really meant is that they're selfishly chucking at the expense of their teammates in a singular attempt to look like the hero, and sometimes, it works.

This thread has 'potential'.....
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Really, the thing I dislike most is when announcers say a player's name in plural such as, "You've got to have someone to guard the Ginobilis, LeBrons, Pauls of the league." There is only one of those players in the league, and it really doesn't even sound right in my opinion. I remember Avery Johnson saying this often in reference to anything that involves any player.
On Harden being MVP of this season ( I don't even like Harden much)

Ever.
Absolute spud of a bloke and **** traits as a player, basically tarnish the MVP forever

"The NBA on ESPN..."

Any broadcast that begins with this phrase is bound to be a terrible production.

Use of the term "in this league". What other league would we be talking about?
