Yeah, no. Hes bad locker room presence. He still thinks he is a top player in the league. He STILL cant play in the post. Barkley was right. The man is just an athlete.

minifang wrote:With the potential of Dwight being a FA this summer, due to his player option, would you want Howard on your team? He is no longer the top 5 player he once was but is still a very serviceable center, great defender, and rebounder. Is he worth all his childish antics and how much do you think he would command in terms of salary? How many years do you think he has left before his decline and injuries officially get to him? Also, if he opts out, and taking personal bias aside, which teams do you think would sign him?

Let's try to keep this civil please. For conversation sake, let's assume your team has enough cap room for him this summer.

Yes, and in fact, im hoping for it... my dream offseason move would be:

Trade brook lopez for a pick in the 10-15 area, draft a wing

dwight is declining, he has some maturity issues. is a bit of a clown. but he still gives you like 16/12/2 on 60TS% with good defense and doesnt need touches. he fits the mold of a modern day center well. i think he has 2-3 years left at this level. ideally you give him 4/100 with the 4th year a team option

I see alot about him being a cancer and killing team chemistry.... then i look at his career.

Every where he has gone he has won. every time he left, that team got worse.

Orlando - they won. they won alot. they got past lebron to get to the finals. He left, and they went in the tank to start a rebuild.

Lakers - it was looked upon as a disaster, but thats only because people were talking about rings. when you look without being biased you see a team that won more games then the prior year despite Gasol missing half the season and kobe and dwight butting heads. dwight left, and the lakers went in the tank and started a rebuild.

Rockets - he goes there, they won 10 more games, made the playoffs. then the next year they went to the conference finals losing to the eventual champs.

Howard has missed the playoffs just twice. his rookie year and the last year in orlando where he missed 30 games. No he isnt the top 5 player/MVP/DPOTY type player he once was. but he is still an excellent 2 way player, who despite being childish is going anchor your defense, score without alot of touches, and help you win alot of games

No.

He's a good player but doesn't fit with the Nuggets in terms of culture or playing style. The young bigs on the Nuggets also need playing time.

BTW he *will* get a big contract, most likely making him overpaid. So I'd want no part of that either.

As a Mavs fan, absolutely not. terrible attitude, health issues, and old. Which means, we'll sign him to a multi year max deal.

I think you should take a closer look at them winning more games with Dwight than the year before...

Pretty sure the Lakers sucked because Nash, Gasol, and Kobe were injured, not just because Dwight left.

Let's face it: the Rockets have been a relative disappointment with Howard. They didn't improve nearly as much as you would expect when adding a player of Howard's caliber.

I look at it another way: Howard has caused problems everywhere he's gone and has left that team a train wreck once he leaves.

what about the year dwight got there? Gasol missed more games the year dwight was there then he did the following year and nash missed 32 games the year with dwight as well. yet they still won more games then the prior season and made the playoffs. i see no evidence to suggest they were better off without dwight or that he was some kind of cancer there.

Let's face it: the Rockets have been a relative disappointment with Howard. They didn't improve nearly as much as you would expect when adding a player of Howard's caliber.

Disappointment? making it to the western conference finals and losing to the eventual champs is a disappointment? didnt improve that much?!? they when from 45 wins to back to back 50+ win seasons 54/56 wins and a trip to the conference finals.

I look at it another way: Howard has caused problems everywhere he's gone and has left that team a train wreck once he leaves.

this is just seems like a bias' based narrative. if he was the problem causing cancer you mentioned, those teams would all have sucked the last few seasons with dwight on the team. which wasnt the case. orlando was a good playoff team every season under dwight with the exception of the year he missed 30 games to injury. the lakers were a playoff team the year with dwight and improved from the prior season without dwight. rockets have been a 50 win playoff team every year with dwight and even this season will be a 42-46 win playoff team

I think he just needs a team he can fit with. Like above said... I think the Celtics try him out and will be a good fit. They seem to play team ball and if he's willing to do do and stop thinking he's Shaq then they will continue to get better.

As for the Lakers, lol

Yeah pretty much.. Dallas has one of the best training staffs in the league, so health and age wont be a deterrent when it comes to negotiations.. Its his prima donna attitude that would be the biggest cause for concern after what we had to endure with Odom and Rondo. It wouldn't surprise me if Carlisle told Mark not to even bother though.. Seems too risky.

Whiteside is somewhat a head case too, but his youth and skill set make it easier to overlook than with Howard

I think its safe to say if Rick was making the decision, he'd take Howard over Whiteside 10 times out of 10 because of his "experience". heck Rick would probably prefer to ask Patrick Ewing or Jermaine O'Neal out of retirement before letting a young promising center play.

Howard would've declined even if he stayed in Orlando, unless the Magic have some sort of youth fountain that prevents players from losing athleticism and staying healthy.

Dwight Howard is a classic example of a guy who relied on athleticism and not fundamentals. It's not a shock that his decline was accelerated once his body broke down.

If he had simply played the last 4 seasons in Orlando, instead of bouncing around, becoming disliked by 3 franchises (Orlando, LA, Houston, ...the entire league, perhaps?), and accomplishing virtually nothing, he'd have cemented himself as an all-time Magic great, had his jersey retired with pride, probably had a statue in the concourse area, etc.

Leaving Orlando backfired horribly for Dwight. With the Magic he was what he always wanted to be - THE MAN, on the court and off it.
