I see Durant having a monster finals and people will start to ask if he's better than Lebron currently.

People? Yeah maybe a few homers and GSW fans.

Nobody in their right mind will broach such a conversation even if he wins 3 straight.

Lol what? KD is having a better regular season than Lebron. If Warriors win the finals and KD plays on this level in playoffs, it's not really a conversation. The only argument for Lebron right now is what he did over the course of 3 games 7 months ago. Big stage and all that, so I'm keeping him at #1 for now.

If you think Durants 26.1/8.4/4.9 is better than Lebrons 25.7/8.0/8.6 then I have 1 word for you

I wasn't thrilled with harden play over all last night. 41 points . 21 TO for the hawks and Rockets loses by 8. Gotta protect home court harden and Mike..

Lol that's not taking into account Durant plays more than 3 fewer minutes per game, is shooting MUCH more efficiently (.654 > .603), has contributed a lot more defensively (on the best defensive team in the league), and plays on a team that wins considerably more.

Lebron fans are so touchy. We get it, he's the best player in the league, but people can play better than him for the duration of a season. Christ...

Yeah yeah keep reaching .

And the reason Durant is on a team that wins more often is also the reason he wont be anywhere near the top 3 in this seasons MVP.

Yeah ok so you have no retort then, lol.

Lebron should be nowhere near the MVP talk right now. Kawhi and KD are putting up comparable statistics, playing better on defence and most importantly are on teams with considerably better records.

Oh so now Kawhi's 25/6/3 is also comparable - jee those western conf guyz sure must be getting some extra bonus points to elevate them over the east conf guys who have similar or better stats than kawhi ( Giannis , Derozen , Wall , Lowry ) .

Bottom line is this MVP season has alot of great contenders but it will come down to 3 finalists -
Harden (current leader)
Westbrook
Lebron

Winner will be decided on pts/rebs/assists and WINS. (MVP voters pay little attention to advanced stats)

Steph and Durant can fight it out for 4th with the other worthy contenders.

Why did LeBron win the MVP in 2012 and 2013 if this is a valid argument?

Per36:

Player A: 27.4 / 8.8 / 5.1
Player B: 24.7 / 7.7 / 8.2
Player C: 27.4 / 6.3 / 3.5

Are they not comparable? They're different but of a similar level.

The bottom line is Lebron, as good as he is, doesn't have a clearcut case over Kawhi and KD.

2011. Was his 1st yr in Miami , now go compare his seasons stats with that years MVP winner. 2012/3. He was clearly better than anyone you care to name.

KD is having a better season than LeBron. But last year Steph had a MUCH better season than LeBron, and we saw what happened in the finals.

Regardless - let's say KD goes nuts in the 2nd half, wins MVP and FMVP sweeping the Cavs 4 straight. Before posting that you now think KD is better than LeBron, do this exercise:

Imagine a game between

The current Warriors
vs.
The current Warriors with LeBron instead of KD

Imagine what happens in this game. Stop yourself from posting that KD is better than LeBron.

Steph:

26/4/6/2
64% TS
+15.6 +/-
17.2 net rating
5.76 RPM

Should be in the lead after Westbrook/Harden, IMO.

I do put some value in actual production, but it's common sense to take into account the circumstances players play in too. It's logical that with the best "supporting cast" of all time, Durant will look better in every facet of his game, and could very well win the championship. But there's such a drastic different between the Warriors without KD and the Cavs without LeBron that it would be nearly impossible to put KD above LeBron based on their performances.

This exact scenario is why I thought KD going to the Warriors was a win/win for LeBron. If he loses, he lost to the best team ever assembled. The only team to ever have 2 MVPs in their prime on the same team.

But if he somehow wins, it's even better than last year, which is already the best finals victory of all time.

In this scenario, there will inevitably be some that suggest KD has surpassed LeBron - but the majority of the world won't see it that way. That's the drawback to joining the Warriors for KD. He has his cake - surpassing LeBron would be eating it.

Yeah, the narrative definitely doesn't cooperate with Curry now, but I do think he needs to be in the convo...and he's only trending up at the point.
