So:

1) I don't think Stauskas can really blame it all in Cousins.

2) I don't think Lowe was suggesting that he could.

3) I don't think people really understand the levels of self-efficacy required to succeed on a level like thus. Yes it's a kids game but the stakes are reals and so is the grind. Whenever I see people on here mocking pro athletes for being soft I think they look ridiculous. Managing the psyches of your players, especially the young players, is mandatory and where they fail, you fail. And if a star player contributes to this, this is always damning if him as a player and as a person. Every. Single. Time.

4) I do think that it amazes me how many people just give Cousins excuse after excuse for the myriad times he's acted poorly. At this point no one should deny he's a head case.

I agree, sports psychology is a real thing. If I had went to a sports psychologist when I was younger it would have saved me a couple years of grief.

I think Stauskas looked pretty bad when he first came to the Sixers and has looked quite a bit better this year since working with a Sports Psychologist. He seems to get along well with Embiid who is more of a positivity guy although also quite competitive. Ben Simmons also seems to like him quite a bit and has mentioned looking forward to kicking it to Stauskas for daggers from 3.

I think JJ Reddick is a good comp for Stauskas. It took him until his age 25 season to put it together in the NBA. In general there are a lot of parallels between their college and pro careers except Stauskas is bigger and has a better handle.

Stauskas' confidence looks quite a bit better this year. I do think the main thing he needs to do is get stronger. He needs about 10 pounds of muscle because he gets knocked off balance a bit too easily.

I do think the best thing that ever happened to the kid was escaping from Sacramento. He would not have reached his potential there with Boogie messing him up.

Stauskas probably needs to toughen up. I know easier said than done. But yeah can't let anyone take your confidence. It's the NBA any advantage someone can get on you they'll take. Especially the elite super competitive players like Jordan. Cousins might have been the way he was to prove that point and try to get him tougher, but maybe he took it too far.

I don't know though. I don't follow the team or know the inside story

Unfortunately, damn near everything else made Cousins really mad too because he is a serious headcase. That's why such a "great" player only got peanuts in return.

For all the talk about how Stauskas sucks, he has consistently gotten better in his 3 seasons, and is now a decent rotation player / some-time starter for us. He still has a chance to be a long-term starter.

I wouldn't say "ruined".

But look at Stauskas and JJ Reddick's career arcs from college through the pros - eerily similar. Stauskas at the same age was a better college player and his age 23 season in the NBA was also better than Reddick's. In his time in the league he has improved each year and is shooting 38% from 3pt land at a rate of about 6 per 36mins which is decent considering the lack of playmaking on the roster.

Not everyone turns the corner upon entering the league. That's why so many guys end up providing most of their value on their second contracts after their first team dumped them at the end of their rookie deals. It's a different world with all these guys leaving college at age 19/20 these days compared to when they left at age 22.

I think he's going to be a good rotational player in the league. He can shoot, he can handle the ball, he has some creativity with the ball in his hands. He is a decent athlete. He is a willing defender and does a decent job using his length. The problem is that he needs to get stronger.

What I do find hilarious is the Kings, having now committed the ultimate foulup of all NBA foulups, are a) of course going to do the (rightfully) insecure thing and leak and slime and run down their former franchise player, even though he was the one who wanted to stay. And b) to top it off maybe they are now going to try to blame their abysmal drafting record on him too?? Haha. "We didn't blow draft after draft drafting scrubs with our lottery picks...no, they were upcoming stars until that big mean Boogie ruined them!"


The NBA really needs to expand by a team here. Right now the Conferences are unbalanced, 15 legit NBA teams in the East, and only 14 in the West.

They did draft it supposed MVP candidate this year, boogie, and white side. Just saying sometimes you hit and sometimes you miss

As we saw with Johnathan Martin and Richie Incognito, you can feel like a victim of bullying and still be "friends" with the person you feel is bullying you. And you can feel like you're just horsing around with a friend and unknowingly crossing the line into bullying.

That's not evidence that Cousins did something wrong. But it's possible that Lowe is reporting good information even in light of Stauskas' tweets. If there's anything we've learned about psychology is that humans are weird and often don't fit into even well-established boxes.
