Whatever reason that gets thrown out there...I dont see why OKC makes that trade. Those three would probably be together still and may have won a championship before 2016 (and the biggest snake move in the history of the NBA wouldnt have happened)

that trade wasnt the worst of the last decade. it wasnt even the worst nets trade by billy killing.

Trading a lottery pick for a 3 month rental of a benched, pending UFA gerald wallace was FAAAAAR worse.

The Harden trade was a joke, even at the time. No one in their right mind thought they were making the right choice and this was before any thought of Harden as being an MVP calibre player.

The Lilliard trade was bad, but trading away Harden for essentially Steven Adams, who I like, is awful.

Sacramento gave away two high picks, IIRC, for approximately nothing. So it's that or Harden depending on how one measures these things.

Mo williams and Jamario moon for Baron Davis' corpse and an unprotected first that became Kyrie Irving. Easily a top 5 worst trade imo, that would be worse if it hadn't been for nabbing CP3 later that year.

Yeah, all that was was a bit of a salary dump. They could have used the amnesty provision on Davis as a new CBA began after that season, so I assume Donald Sterling was being stingy. It's because of stuff like that I was pissed when they got Paul.
A somewhat less egregious but similar move was when Detroit traded Ben Gordon and a first (which became Noah Vonleh) for Maggette so their owner wouldn't have the $13 million of Gordon's final contract year on the books.

Most bad deals are done by bad teams and/or moments of desperation.

OKC was neither. That's what makes their error the most egregious.
They traded away a star player who wanted to stay.
From a team that had just reached the Finals.
Over a few million dollars.

The funny part is they then turned around and gave $70 million to Enes Kanter just a few years later.

The Sac-Philly salary dump. But that wasn’t to sign Landry, they signed Rondo, Koufos and Belinelli with the space.

Harden's trade and it's not even close.

They decided to pay Ibaka, keep KENDRICK PERKINS and didn't want to pay Harden 1 mil more per year  Are you kidding me? I still can't stop laughing about this trade. Even with Durant and Westbrook's playoff injuries, OKC could have won titles with 2 of their 3 stars but they decided to keep KENDRICK PERKINS as a rim protector against the Heat

Harden and it is not even close. This has to be one of the worst desicinions in whole NBA history. Thunder was dynasty in a making and Mr. Bennett gave away Harden for 3 million dollars per year... Genius... But hey Mr. Bennett - karma Is a bitch! Though I have to say OKC fans didn't deserve this, they love their team and are very passionate.
And for those who are saying harden was just all star and similar stuff.. This team came from NBA finals when their main core was like 23 years old... Has there ever been similar team in NBA history?
And they gave away this team for three millions per year... BTW they extended S. Ibaka ...WTF? Ridiculous ridiculous ridiculous...
This desicion will haunt OKC many many years.

In three years it will be this order

1. Brooklyn/Celtics trade
2. Harden Deal
3. Celtics/Cleveland deal
4. Nash Trade then subsequently MCW/Knight trade
5. Lillard deal

Why the dame deal at 5? Actually simple. Despite the context of the original deal making no sense the Nets have actually made worse moves since then which started a chain reaction around the league because of the Celtics. Between the trade exceptions moved around to get IT which set up the Kyrie deal and Brown/Tatum hitting as picks it’s really shaped the league a different way. Lakers trading the pick for Nash is defensible however trading it in the MCW isn’t. That pick once again could end up being a part of Boston’s core because of the Tatum for Fultz trade. Which again the genesis of it all is the BRK/BOS deal. The fact that this deal in 3 years probably doesn’t even crack the top 5 shows how bad Billy King screwed up the league.

top 3-5 player in the league since and okc didn't get anything close to comparable back

lol at comparing the rest of those names to harden.. harden is more valuable than lillard and boogie combined

cousins as the number 1 results in a lotto team.. cousin + AD results in a .500 team
lillard along with another solid guard in mccollum results in a .500 team

harden + no one significant has won 50+ on his own

the harden trade is one of the worst in nba history.. better yet, sports history

I mean the Thunder couldn't keep Harden, some of these other trade options weren't due to necessity

yes they could have

instead they chose a big with 1/4 the potential

the advanced stats all screamed perennial all star for harden.. the eye test screamed it even louder

not that fantasy bball means anything, but he was immediately a top 5 pick across the board in drafts based on the fact that everyone knew he was about to explode

i remember posting his numbers with durant and wb off the court right after the trade and they were serious..

Any trade that has Billy King's footprints on it. So the Gerald Wallace trade triumphs them all.

You could make a case for the Deron Williams trade also. Gave up Favors and Williams wasn't nearly as good as he was in Utah.

Changed the fortunes of both teams since that trade: Raptors 4 straight playoff years; Knicks four straight lottery years.

Absolutely HATED this trade.

In addition to ditching bargs and his contract + getting Jakob Poeltl with that pick, the thing people forget about this deal is that it was the second time Ujiri had fleeced the Knicks. The first time was the Melo trade when he was in Denver.

A couple of months later, Ujiri had another deal in place with the Knicks to send Kyle Lowry out in return for a mediocre pick + Hardaway Jr.. After getting hosed by Ujiri twice, James Dolan intervened and vetoed the deal assuming he was going to get taken for a third time. Lowry became an all-nba player, 3x all-star and has led the Raptors to 50+ wins in four straight seasons while the Knicks have toiled in obscurity.

The Harden trade was head scratching.....amnesty Perkins to free the cap space is all they had to do in order to keep the most talent young big 3 the league has ever seen. An improved, hungrier version of KD/Russ/Harden coming off a championship loss would have take the league by storm. Plus having Ibaka at 28 (right in the middle of his prime) didn't hurt either.
