How old are you?
The big difference when you get older is how fast you recover. For short burst you can even look 80% of your former self, but going through a 82 games season is a different animal.
He had an offseason to rest, he probably now has a better understanding of what he can or cannot do and he has to agree with the organization on the expectations.
