I hope the NBA doesn't get the idea to make the Lakers pay for increased WNBA salaries because they already have to share their BRI and money from their TV deal with a bunch of feckless NBA teams with the same attendance, viewership, and poor product problems. I wouldn't be surprised if the thought has crossed Silver's mind. There are NBA fans on this site who think it would be unfair for the Lakers not to be forced to share their wealth with their teams. That's BS enough as it is!

Pretty weird that anytime there's a thread about the WNBA, all these poster crawl out of their mouseholes to "well actually" denigrate the WNBA.

Sure is weird... and consistent.

The sad reality is all of these women went to college and do not understand basic economics.

The only thing they were taught in college is to throw a fit until they get their way.

And I want to be paid the same amount as Federer and Nadal for playing 5 sets on my community court, yet every time I bring it up, people say it's "absurd". Go figure...

Equal pay for equal work. They both play basketball, one gets paid a boatload of money more for the same work. This is textbook sexism on multiple levels.

No way can this be a real post. No way.

They deserve a bit of a raise in comparison to how much NBA players are getting, but you can't force people to watch the product.

Let's not begrudge a superstar like Brittney Griner just because of her femininity and good looks.

What the NBA players are getting paid and what they are getting paid have nothing to do with each other.

Been saying this about the porn industry for ages. Those studs deserve a solid raise. Just the thought of hard working chaps like Mandingo & Lex Steele being so severely underpaid drives me nuts.

Actually this is a myth as well. GOAT-level performer Johnny Sins just did a YouTube vlog where he tackled this subject.

Wait, i just watched your link and it appears that the 'myth' is true. He worked for free and eventually worked up to getting paid $100 per scene before he became well known and could charge more because fans demanded him. He even says they make 'a lot less'.

Here's a sad reality, WNBA would be more profitable if they wore skimpier outfits IMO

People choose NBA > WNBA cause it's the best players in the world. For WNBA to gain more viewership I think they'd need something other than talent

No, it's not equal work. People are paid based on the value they bring to the company, not the effort they put into their job. If you worked out most of the year and played 82 rec league games with playoffs you'd be doing the same "work" as a NBA player, does that make you worthy to be paid millions of dollars? Obviously not. This is textbook economics, you must have missed that class.

It's not a "capitalism" problem, it's a freedom of choice problem. People don't want to watch the WNBA, they want to watch the NBA. The same issue with women's soccer, not very many people watch it. If they had equal viewership they would get paid the same.

So how do we solve this problem then? If there is minimal viewership how do they expect making big money? Even wnba team owners dont make THAT much of money where they could throw these bigger contracts left and right. Some of them can't even sell their team because there are no buyers. The players are getting like 25% of revenue, if they want 50% like nba does then sorry its not gonna happen until more people legitimalty watch wnba.

Now I don't have a statistics but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more female nba fans than female wnba fans. If anyone has any legitimate statistics then I would love to see it.

It'd be like CFL players protesting for not making as much as NFL players. Completely different leagues. I really have a hard time believing that WNBA players don't understand why they're paid so much less. Their games aren't interesting, so people don't watch. You can't force people to watch something they don't like. If people don't watch then the money isn't going to be there.

Men have more at risk in international competition, so they get paid more.
