Hell no. He ranks 201st in defensive winshares. The same reason people didn't want to call Lebron the best player in NBA last year is the same reason I can't call Luka Doncic the best player in the NBA. Everyone is just blown away by his offensive game which is trascendent no doubt but I value being a two way player far more than just being trascendent on offense.

yep, everything about him pointed to him being a franchise level player, he had one of the highest floors in recent memory (maybe only AD has a claim to a better one given his phenomenal success in college that, at the time, came without any real injury concerns).

Luka was consensus number 1 pick for me because if you did end up passing on him and he turned out like this it's not like anyone could claim they didn't have enough sample data given he's played professionally, and with great success, for a number of years.

Most people don't gives a crap about defense 'cause if you're a guard or wing, you can be hidden far more easily than a big.

No such thing is happening. The kid is literally so good that what you describe doesn't happen on a big scale, only those posters react that way who always really had a little agenda against him. Anyway, it's obviously way too early for what OP says,but what you say does not happen, and it does not happen because it's getting harder and harder to overrate the kid, and he is one of the most popular players in the NBA, and in probably all fan bases, with the exception of maybe the Hawks fan base (and that is true for most Mavs fans as well, they don't like Trae. I agree with a lot of that. I simply think that finals caliber Giannis defense could shut down anyone. I think he is the only player in this league that could pester Luka at that level. Then again, screens and switches change anything.
