Because Oak retired

Obviously the punishments are much harsher today. Fines and suspensions.

You know that UFC is on ESPN+ right? Bundle it with Hulu and Disney for like 15 a month..

But I hear you. I get pretty upset at the UFC when it doesnt turn into a basketball game

They should do like in hockey. Let these guys duke it out for 1 minute before breaking the fight up. Fight ends via KO, tapout or draw (after 1 minute).

Because they aren't fighters, would get suspended, and rely on their hands for a living.

These players are insanely strong, some of them with world class fast twitch muscles. They have no protective gear at all. A clean hit could end someone's career. A broken hand or orbital bone or concussion. The money is too big and problem characters don't make it to the league as frequently. I think a higher percentage of players have their heads on straight these days.

Chris Paul and Rondo was a pretty good fight a few years back.. I was impressed at how Chris absorbed Rondo's sucker punch and got in a few shots at Rondo.

I'm not going to lie they are a few players I would like to see punched out. Mainly guys who act like fake tough guys.

Fighting? bruh you get a tech for hanging on the rim too long. Emotionally neutered league. You can't even give mean eyeballs to the refs.

That's absurd. Even in the UFC people don't get their careers ended in one clean hit and all they do is hit each other. Players in rugby used to Fight each other for fun all unpadded and never heard of anyone getting seriously hurt from a few punches.

Sure a freak accident can occur if someone's head hits the hardwood but that can happen in normal play too.

Yeah but how are you going to regulate risk in allowing fighting? It came awfully close for Rudy T. So what happens when someone really does die or have a life-altering or career-altering injury? Just chalk it up to bad luck because it's a MAN'S GAME?

The correct answer is because western world has been doing a huge effort to "pussify" itself in a recent decade (please don't strike me... i can't pick a better word).

Just look at huge part of modern boys... their psyche more resembles girls than future man imho. Why would basketball players, who are a product of their generations, be any different?

How do you even cross the road then if that's your thinking. Like anything else in life they have to weigh up the risks and rewards and decide if it's worth it. Nobody is locking these guys In an octagon and forcing them to fight.

To be honest fighting KD on national TV is pretty low on the hierarchy when it comes to the tower of extreme risks.

Word. Rather these guys handle it like men out on the court, rather than the current norm of recruiting battles and using their DMs to get an advantage over their rivals. That just isn't sport

The lowest or minimum paid guys in the league are probably earning 20x the average realgmer is.. so i cant imagine that kind of wealth.

So i dunno.about how rich some of you guys are but if pride is the reason for costing me a million/year salary then il be the first one hand behind my back lying down in the court. i might have a black eye or missing teeth but you can bet il be driving home in a nice car to my fully paid home knowing i wont have to pay any fines.

The same can be siad of these players. I dont think the average NBA player is that dumb to risk millions just to punch someone.

It's not absurd at all. Do you realize how strong guys like Shaq/Wilt/Zion are? They might suck at fighting, but one punch connecting could smash bones. I've heard of street fights with guys cheekbone's caving in, there's footage of Kimbo Slice basically making a guys eye fall out in a backyard fight and he's not even a good fighter by UFC standards.

UFC fighters only fight once every few months and they have tons of time to recover afterwards and they wear gloves. NBA players have to play multiple games/week and each player is really important. Hockey players who fight and hit a lot suffer all kinds of problems as well and look how much protection they have.

Because it's pointless and unrelated to basketball.

I'm all for allowing more physical defense, but this is silly.
