I'm from Toronto and I still call it the Skydome and ACC. I'm sure hometown fans will still refer to it as Staples.

Yeah, the .com is the extra cringe part of it. Crypto Arena isn't awesome by a long shot, but like... 30% better?

Crypto Arena could mean anything to anybody. The .com signifies why the sponsorship of the arena would be worth so much. It's paid advertising.

Any Arena could mean anything to anybody. Staples, Target, United etc....

What would be ironic about that? It’s kind of sad they’re changing the name. “Staples” is pretty iconic. It’s like when they changed the name of Joe Robbie stadium down in Miami. Historic names that are now tarnished

As much as I dislike the Lakers as a Celtics fan, the Los Angeles Lakers truly deserve much better than to be dumped on like this. The NBA is just an extremely greedy business -- greedy owners, greedy execs, and greedy players -- and frankly I no longer even encourage young people to watch it. These teams including the Celtics would put anything on the jerseys to make a buck. At a certain point, fans should unite and say enough of these trash names if you want to name your businesses after American cities. Los Angeles, Boston and all of the other NBA cities shouldn't be forced to put up with this crap. If the league want to move all of the teams to Canada/Mexico/Europe, let them all leave.
