It'll be interesting to see how the NBA handles this situation. I'd think since the deflection was so blatant and in front of an official someone has to get reprimanded right?

So now James Harden has the referees AND and assistant coach helping him mid game? Nets can't lose with these advantages.

That’s a missed call?

That's a pretty extreme example and also all turnovers are officially reviewed in the NFL. A better comparison would be NFL coach/player trips up a player running down the sideline on a kickoff and it's not caught by the ref. Which has happened. It doesn't lead to a protest game. It's just a blown call/missed call.

Tried to link, but says it was blocked. Jets had an assistant who stuck out his leg and tripped a player on a punt. The player fell and appeared injured, but refs didn't catch it so no flag. No protest.

coach was fined like $100k and resigned.

Ref was looking directly at it when it happened.

NBA Refs are a joke and few in the league will speak up about it for fear of retribution.

Not extreme It resulted as a turnover
It’s way worse than a trip, how many coaches have touched the ball in an active game???

Jason kidd got fined 50k for the spilling water stunt he pulled. This assistant coach needs to be fined double.

As for the ref, par for the course. They suck.
screw these absolute garbage refs

If this happened to LeBron they would organize another Mickey mouse championship for him.

That ref needs to be sacked immediately for missing that.
It’s like if you F up at work you get fired.

Missing that is like a taxi driver jumping out of the cab while rolling down a hill

I don’t understand why the benches, courtside seats and cameramen need to be so close to the court.

Well you get photos and highlights like this and many others.

Plenty of wall posters were made by great cameramen.

Surely there's technology that allows for the same footage without a man sitting so close carrying such a huge camera?

Could you use this as special play in the 7th game in the finals?

I'm not sure I put a lot of blame on the ref. What ref is looking to see if a coach slaps a ball away? Even looking right at it I'm sure it happened so quickly and when I saw the video at first I thought Kuzma just fumbled it as well.

The coach should be heavily fined and fired. There's got to be some kind of spirit of the game clause in contracts and that is example A of how to break it.

i suspect he was watching the feet to make sure people are in bounds.

It is not that uncommon in the NFL as well. Juggled passes are missed while looking for the toe drag.

What was the betting line and how much did the ref win?

Disgraceful.

The ref clearly mouths "I did not see it", but on the slomo closeup at the end of the clip there is a ref standing FIVE FEET AWAY ON THE SIDELINE LOOKING RIGHT AT THE PLAY. I mean...

pause the video at the 1:14 mark. Look at where the ball is, where the assistant touches it, and look at where the ref is. Hint: you won't have to look far.

Pretty positive thats the same ref that said "I didn't see it". Just to play devils advocate here, it was a weird angle that he was standing in. Kuzma was right there. Theres no way you would expect a person on the bench to reach out and touch the ball. He clearly did though, and it looks pretty intentional too.

People suggesting the Nets should have to forfeit obviously don't realize that that doesn't happen in the NBA. The rule in this case is a technical foul assessed to the Nets bench. Vanderpool (i think thats his name) however, should be suspended a game and he or the Nets should be fined.

Not sure I can be too hard on the refs.

It happened so fast that I only noticed it because I was looking for it.

Without the slow motion replay it was hard to see since I can't remember something like this happening before.

You forgot the most important part. The offending hand must be cut off in town square.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

That’s some fast hands, I was watching it live and I was like why da F would Kuzma foul in that situation and the team was back in position to stop the break. Then I saw the replay and was like damn that’s messed up, o well

NBA refs are a joke. The league admitted to blowing 3 calls at the end of the game that favored the Wolves against the Knicks, and they won by two. I mean that isn't as big a deal as this one but why admit it if you're not gonna act on it.

Why do they publish these reports if it doesn't matter at the end? If the league admits the refs made a mistake here and there's no penalty or the fine is minimal, it benefits the coaches on the sidelines to think about cheating if the risk isn't that bad.
