Surprised this thread wasn’t locked by moderators. Knicks are a bigger market than the Lakers yet their fans don’t act like everything revolves around them. There are team forums to use for individual team talk. Any new Lakers or LeBron thread should be locked until the off-season, it’s the start of the playoffs! Enjoy and embrace playoff basketball even if your team isn’t in it.

Slax wrote:The purpose of the play-in is to get the best, most exciting teams into the playoffs, instead of depending on a regular season that is filled with injury luck and early season false starts. I think we can ALL agree that the Lakers have tons of talent - LeBron, AD, Russ - and deserved to make the playoffs this year. It is only fair that the best teams have the opportunity to play in the important games. Nobody wants to see the Spurs of all teams playing for an opportunity for a playoff spot while the Lakers sit at home. So the play-ins have failed to do what they were designed to do.

What was wrong with the play-in? Simple, not enough teams invited to play. We need to expand the play-in to cover more records. While 11th best record would have been enough to include the Lakers this team, I think we should expand it to 12 just to be safe.

I have spent four hours going over different possible formats, and I have settled on this as the best one:

Game A: 5th (Jazz) vs 6th (Nuggets) - winner gets 5th seed
Game B: 7th (T-Wolves) vs 8th (Clippers) - winner gets 6th seed
Game C: 9th (Pelicans) vs 10th (Spurs) - winner gets 7th seed
Game D: 11th (Lakers) vs 12th (Kings) - winner gets 8th seed

In my new improved format, the play-in tournament is only one game, providing more excitement for everyone. It also creates more incentive for teams to play hard to get the fourth best record or higher, instead of tanking to the fifth or sixth spot. And finally, you get a strong incentive to make sure you are climbing in standings from 12th best record to the 5th best record so you can compete for a higher seed. No incentives to tank except at the VERY bottom!

And best of all, we would have gotten to see an amazing Lakers-Suns matchup in the first round of these playoffs. Suns might be playing well right now, but you can never count out a team with LeBron, AD, and Russ in the playoffs! The talent is overwhelming.

What do you all think of my idea? Are there enough teams included? I was thinking maybe one more but I couldn't figure out how to make it work with an odd number of teams. Maybe someone else here can figure it out.

The Lakers gave up on the season, Lebron decided he would reather miss the playoffs then limp in and have a good team bounce him out and be able to brag that they tossed out the king. His DNP's at the end were pure BS.

I think I have a better idea.

All the teams in the league make the play-offs. I know that there are only 15 teams in each conference. That’s where the G-League comes into play. Have the two teams in the G-League finals play against the top seeded teams in each conference.

1 vs G* / 2 vs 15 / … / 8 vs 9

The team with the best W/L % in the league plays against the G-League finalist. The other 1st seeded team plays against the G-League champs.

Everybody gets to participate in the play-offs, even some G-League teams.

You realize this is a satirical thread made by a Celtics fan, right? :P

Espn is giving this a thumbs up.

But they do though.

This would be great satire, but its not. One things knicks fans are good at are keeping their insanely optimistic or pessimistic or knicks centered views off the gen board. They don't have westbrook or lebron though so there's less to talk about.

Pretty good satire tbh, a lot of people took it seriously and the fact that it came from a celtics fan makes it sweeter lol.

I want to take the opportunity to take this sarcatic post, make a point.

They should extend this to the best & worst teams so after an 82 game yr the best team in the league can potentially get knocked out, Take last yr for instance, Jaz who won their series in 5 vs Memphis would have been eliminated with their game 1 loss if this playin scenario was extended to the top seed.

In that parrallel comparison

#1 Jazz with playin implications = Undeserving of their #1 seed.losing to the 10 seed Memphis game 1

#1 Jazz with PO implications = deserving of their #1 seed winning 4-1 to the 10 seed Memphis in 5

This earned right doesn't matter for the 7th seed though because they're not expected to win anyway. am I right ?

The playin is fine but if you're going to include the 7th seed there has to be better incentive for being 10 games better than. Otherwise just let the winner of 9-10 play 8th seed to help eliminate tanking.

Hm that's a pretty good idea. Maybe we could set up a market for them to buy wins off other teams at the end of the season.

Just give them an extra 25% on the salary cap for good measure to reflect their greater contribution to overall league revenue.

May I nominate the Yankees Gerrit Cole on an advisory panel to weed out any other injustices. He had to endure a 4 minute "unforseen challenge" in pre game activities that caused him to lose the first game this season.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

All these ideas are terrible. Lakers should be awarded a permanent playoff berth AND given an automatic 2-0 lead to start every series. I think that's best and fairest way to approach this debacle.
