Mychal Thompson was the number one pick in the 1978 draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He was an important piece to the Showtime Lakers in the early '80s winning two rings. He's also the current Lakers radio color commentator.

The listed heights might not say it, but I'm pretty sure Gary Payton II is taller than his dad. The way they measured heights back then compared to now can kind of throw things off.

Even two very tall parents will likely have a less tall kid because of regression to the mean. On the other hand, we don't hear about those failures, since they're not on the NBA radar. We only see the NBA player sons, which is AGAIN selecting for outliers. So children of NBA players will be much shorter in general. However, NBA players who had fathers in the NBA won't be much shorter, although growing up rich with the best training will mean they can overcome being slightly shorter to still make the NBA.

I think it's a combination of 3 factors:

1. Genetics
2. Diet
3. Physical activity

Genes are the main factor, obviously.

What you eat, and how much do you exercise, up to when you're around 21, are a boost IMO.

A wife’s duty to her husband. They hopefully create children they have a duty to. And the children have a duty to their parents. It’s an arrangement/deal that is made that is supposed to benefit all parties and society as a whole. The romanticization of marriage (and the romantic dating nonsense that lasts years) has corrupted society for far too long. It’s kind of sad.

Now as for whether it makes sense to have “creating athletically gifted/tall children” as one of the staples of the agreement you iron out, we’ll that’s debatable. It’s up to the people that decide to hammer out a deal and get married.

Chances are that you are single and will continue to be for quite a while.

Plenty of people think like him, and even more did so in the past. To this day, in India "love marriages" are an increasingly frequent exception to a rule that is more like his view. People who live in small rural villages and never travel more than a few miles from where they are born may well marry according to his views. Feudal nobility used to, for centuries. "Mail order brides" used to be a thing on the American frontier. Etc.

I presume a large majority of NBA players are taller than their fathers.

If we look at the subset of players whose fathers are, say, 6' 10" or taller, I'd guess that most of them are shorter than their dads.

Those two statements in no way contradict each other.

Science says ....you are right -

Genetics - obviously but diet plays a Huge factor...possibly over generations

North and South Korea 6” difference... that’s insane and probably the best argument for capitalism over totalitarianism....and you know FOOD...ever.

Klay’s dad is pretty famous. PLayed for the Lakers and now does commentary for them on TV.

Mychal Thompson was also a former #1 overall pick in the NBA draft.

Mychal Thompson was a 1st overall pick, just saying, and much taller than Klay.
Also Jellybean Bryant was taller than Kobe.

And yet no mention of Yao Ming. (In case you're not familiar, both his parents were professional athletes and they were "matched up" with the goal to create a super-athlete. I'm sure someone with more spare time and less lazy than me will post his parents' heights but I believe his mom was easily above 6 feet tall.)
this is BS conspiracy that came out in the US at the time of the draft
