Carrying a 27 win team to 47 wins is as impressive as carrying a 40 win team to 60. The former guy may or may not be a “ceiling raiser”, but for a regular season award that’s not relevant. Embiid or Giannis would have also been solid choices but Jokic is totally deserving

Imo, it sucks that:

The only human beings making these votes are:

Exclusive media staff members that are selected by NBA executives. There isn't a criteria on how a media member can be an NBA award voting member.

There also aren't consistent parameters set on how to awards, and make all-NBA teams.

Players, coaches, GM's, etc. having an input on these awards makes sense to me.

All good (for me).

Congrats to Jokic. A third in a row will be impossible though. Unless nuggets finish with the 1 seed in the west. And even than it may not be enough.

For 3rd, IMO he needs 65+ wins RS (which is possible from Nuggets fun perspective ), but I doubt he will have similar stats with Murray and MPJ playing. Next year for Nuggets is about winning, this is small compensation for season spoiled with injuries. I really don't get why are some of Giannis or Embiid fans are pissed with this when your teams are playing for the real thing. Good luck in POs

Well deserved. Clearly the MVP, his team managed to beat two bottom 5 teams without him all year, he set all kinds of records, and once again the team to knock him out of the playoffs is the title favorite (not that playoffs matter for regular season MVP but noticed someone else mention it). Team overachieved expectations set for them with a healthy MPJ and expected Murray return, and neither of those happened.

Couple that with all other MVP candidates missing tons of games and it’s a no brainer.

Last time Jokic was on a healthy squad he humiliated a stacked team led by Kawhi Leonard and went to the Western Conference Finals.

Fans like you called Kobe a loser when he was on a garbage squad in between Shaq and Gasol. Was Kobe elite, and then bad, and then elite again? Or was he just always elite and the team changed around him? Shaq didn't win multiple MVPs because he too often chilled in the regular season. Kobe came close to winning multiple but there were just other great players. Neither Shaq or Kobe ever put up a regular-season performance like this. You need a squad to beat good teams in the playoffs (ask Michael Jordan about how his playoffs went pre-Pippen and Grant). Jokic's squad sat this season out with injuries. God permitting they'll be back healthy next year and Denver will be a playoff threat.

I just wish we could go back retroactively and give MVPs to superstars who were ultimate floor raisers on talent poor teams. Joker fully deserving but there needs to be some consistency.

Jokic won because the other candidates had a similar number of wins.
Had the Sixers won like 55+ games there would have been no controversy.

Very easily is a bit of a stretch. Shaq always more or less needed reliable SG/PG's to feed him the ball and also shooters that he could kick it out when he was doubled. Jokic on the other hand is the exact opposite. He actually needs competent people that he can pass the ball to when he is creating offense.

I'm not trying to argue who is a better player obviously but i'm not sure Shaq could have just easily carried this team to the 2nd round. Specially because you can't use elbows anymore like in the past.
