It's on his spine and the doctors have done all they can in terms of surgery and treatment. They have faith in Jesus, so even if you don't think much of that, they are at least at peace with it the outcome and seem to just want to spend whatever time they have enjoying each other.

Jonathan is 33 and she is 34 and they have a son, so that is particularly difficult to think they had all these years to look forward to and now it's likely not going to happen. We are destined to die, but most of assume that will come when we are old and spent.

Found this article he wrote about it last year.

https://www.theringer.com/2021/5/20/22444532/long-night-of-the-soul

Yeah he also wrote an article about fatherhood this year:

Such a sad thing to go through..

That article is just amazing , if everyone read that and analyzed it we would be such a better society

Hospice means they’re no longer trying to fix the issue or prolong his life. The focus of care now shifts entirely to comfort in his remaining days. And that is an extremely sad situation that warrants respect it isn’t getting from everyone here.

It's the business of the people who donate to a GoFundMe under false pretenses. If he's been taken care of then there is no need for fundraising. If he hasn't been taken care of then it's the public's right to call out Simmons. So something shady is going on one way or another.

I think my point is that you have no idea what is going on here.

And you've certainly proven that. Moving on.

Sorry man, it just pisses me off to see people taken advantage of, and one way or the other people are getting screwed over here.

I see your point but what if they feel good about donating and feel like they're helping out the family? Most of the donations are pretty small in the $50 range or so.

People like to help and the family will need it. Funeral cost are insane, who knows how much their mortgage is while they're all missing work etc.. **** falls apart quick financially once a unexpected young Man of the house falls like that.

The medical bills are whatever as you can just pay them basically anything as you can but theres so much more then that.

Right, and even if the Ringer is paying full salary for another year or two or whatever, this can still go on top of that to help with any kind of expenses from the illness, death, etc. Or just be something they can use down the line for whatever they want or need. Either way people gave it to him and his family because they wanted to help them out, and that's where the money is going.

Plus the gofundme was originally set up in 2021--well before he was set to go to hospice--so the situation was probably different then. Either way the fundraising team isn't being dishonest and everyone who's sending notes about why they're giving money are basically just doing it as a tribute to Tjarks. Really don't think you have to keep suspicions up on this.

Read the wife’s blog and man that got to me, as a newly wed in my early 30s.

Such an unfortunate situation. Such terrible luck.

Been following the blog for a while since Tjarks was diagnosed. He has such a distinctive voice and angle on basketball takes and I really have come to appreciate those unique takes over the years. Thank you Tjarks!

Read on Twitter

Devastating news indeed. I still remember reading his articles here in RealGM before he transferred to The Ringer. Gone way too soon, he's a fantastic writer. Cancer really sucks.

One day there will be a real breakthrough on cancer, however it probably won't be for a long while.
