OT: NBA 2K23 is a hate crime against gamers.

Y’all need to get on myGM. They added some crazy stuff in it. You get to start in the year 2002 and get a chance to draft Bron,Melo,Wade, Bosh. And they actually have the draft classes for every year too till 2022. So you can tank for years. Most good players are there in the drafts. It’s very fun.

Since I really hate giving 2K money and I know VC is a huge scam, I just play MyEra's (MyLeague) and create a character. I player lock onto that player and then play the games, while controlling my own upgrades after games based on how I perform. This way I never have to deal with the atrocious 2K stories and terribly designed characters that are just completely out of place.

Sometimes I do this in our current normal league, but most of the time I love doing fantasy drafts with this concept so you can play whichever position you want and not have to deal with strange roster moves that messes up your team.

There are other things to do in NBA 2K than MyPlayer online. If people keep giving their money to 2K, they'll keep releasing the same things. They have no incentive to improve the game.

That being said, there's a lot of things to like about NBA 2K. Playing 5 on 5 online with your friends is very fun.

It was much worse a few years ago when they literally had virtual CASINOS in the damn game.

That is so gross. The proliferation of open gambling is going to be a disaster for society. Gambling is addictive and there are people prone to becoming problem gamblers. These games are also designed to be addictive.

Now we have people walking around with slot machines hooked up to their life savings/credits cards via smart phone gambling. And the advertising is everywhere. I'm a baseball fan. If you watch MLB games, every inning they openly plug gambling.

I genuinely hope some gambling addicts are able to file and win class action lawsuits against these people. And before you laugh, remember that was a big thing that really turned the tide against tobacco. They used to always win suits and juries would say it is the smokers and in the 90s it flipped. It really forced Big Tobacco to make concessions.

And I hope that happens to all these gambler merchants. I had no idea virtual casinos were in games in which people could spend real cash. I'm really glad that wasn't around when I was a kid. And I probably wouldn't let my kids have em if I was parent. Just as I wouldn't buy a 14 yr old booze.

The tolerance of gambling in society is really bad. Even if you like to gamble, I think you can concede this isn't something that should be promoted so heavily.

I can't imagine the damage a virtual casino attached to your hip and buzzing notifications will do. Here in Ontario provincial government has a crown corp that runs gambling. I understand the idea behind it, but drives me crazy every time I hear them advertising and promoting it

David Frum's article is on point because it tackles head on the argument gambling merchants make to non-gamblers: allow our product to grow the economy. Even if the customers lose the overall economy gets better.

As David shows that isn't true. Gambling is actually harmful for the economy and society in general. My ideal plan would be to treat it like cigs, heavily regulated, no advertising, liability for companies if they try to violate the regulations, strict limitations on sales to minors.

And as an aside, there are few things more gross than watching a pre-game show and hearing the announcers talk about "locks." It is mathamatically impossible for there to be locks in gambling.

We just learned a few years ago what VC is and how these companies use it to drain bank accounts.
This is on top of the $100 he already paid for the game. Don't forget the $20 you pay monthly for the xbox subscription.

and this on top of the $100 + Who knows how much VC he spent Last Year for the last NBA 2K22

It's a total racket. I can't believe they get away with this and we buy into the scam.

2k franchise has been terrible for a while now. Same goes for Madden.

VC has ruined it, but people continue to pay $70+ for it, so it’ll never change.

I can understand microtransactions in free to play games like fortnite or Overwatch but to charge full price AND add microtransactions that are essential must haves is disgusting.

I just wish myNBA saw an update. Eras is cool but how about some fixes for bugs that have existed for now three games ? RFA is broken, no rookie extensions, contract system never works, AI pay crazy amounts of luxury tax, and now in fantasy drafts you can't even see your previous picks in one menu.

I bought FIFA, and in good old FIFA fashion, it had problems, they iuntroduced anticheat that you must run even tho I never play second of online, that thing didn't open the game for me, tried many different things to solve this - ruined my entire PC. Now I am on day 4 trying to repair the damage, reinstalled windows, had to format disks, but now trying to save data with Hetman program, it takes days to load this ****, yeah... this blows.

All these sports games are just 95% copy and paste the code from previous years (I know Madden has been caught doing this multiple times) and then add some stupid new mode or feature and that’s all they push when advertising the game.

Back in the day I used to know the release date for games like Madden and 2k months prior their release because it was so fun to see the improvements from game to game. I went a good 4-5 years without buying a Madden game then saw the latest one for sale (this was like a year and a half ago) and decided to see the changes. Literally no change at all. All the menu setups were identical. The in game features for things like Franchise mode were all identical. 2k the same thing, they basically just change the storyline for the first year of MyCareer (most people try to skip that cringe stuff anyways) and that’s really the only change they make.

So ya stop buying those games and stop playing those games online and buying DLC. That is the only way they will ever make any changes. The era of great sports games is definitely long gone.

I personally haven't bought a 2K since 2K18, what I noticed around 2K9, at which point I'd buy the game every 2-3 years, was that it never made sense to buy the game on it's release date because there were always game breaking glitches / flaws that ruined the experience and wouldn't be fixed until at least a month or two post release...

It sucks that this trend has gotten worse and affects nearly all genres of games since then.

Ya thats another thing in general gaming now. So many games are so broken at launch and it takes a few patches for the game to actually be the game they said it was going to be. I'll go full old man yelling at clouds on this and say I remember the day when there were no patches for games, the games had to be fully complete and extremely limited on its glitches on release day.

It's massively better than 2k18 in terms of the amount of grinding to get VC, but it is a travesty, especially the stupid city that you have to ride a **** skateboard around on.
