lots of recently bias Herr.

Would Jokic ever be considered better then Kareem, Russell, Wilt, Shaq or Akeem.

You can’t be top 10 all-time without multiple championships. Period.

What would the justification be? More MVPs than everyone else? His future MVP years would have to be even more impressive than the ones he's had and the award's relevance would still be devalued for him and everyone else.

He would have to be better than Hakeem, Curry or Kobe all of whom had multiple championships and have a defensive accomplishment like steals leader, or DPOY or all-defensive teams respectively.

I would say it is impossible, not just for him but any hypothetical player.

What? Ducan and Bird are even top 5, not just top 10.

No they are not

See they didn't win the DPOY trophy, which is a bigger indicator of your ability then a championship, since it focus' on individual ability, rather then the other 6/7 guys on your team

Thus, not having a DPOY trophy is a bigger indicator of being a top 10 player then a ring

So let me get this right,

Duncan
Bird
Shaq
LeBron
Magic
Kobe

Are all not part of the all time top 10?

Also I assume this is a sarcastic post trying to use anything on the defensive end as an argument against Tim Duncan.

It's absolutely scarcastic. To lay claim that a guy isnt/cant be a top 10 player because of titles which is a team sport is such a poor argument. I dont see people Trashing JJ Redick for not winning an NCAA trophy but he's up there at the best collage players of all time. I dont know why NBA players who fail to win a championship then have individual sucess questioned because of 10 guys not winning it all, I dont see why Wake Forrest not winning around Duncan disqualifies Duncans amazing college career, Why should Jokic cop it?

*I dont think Jokic is top 10, I think he'll get absolutely close and who knows as he's got 4/5 years of peak basketball in him as well,

There's a good argument he's a better offensive player then all of them at least.

Top ten will always factor in titles in some form or fashion.

NO

because all those club members talk about are rings
that's all they care about

numbers are for media and fans to banter about and stir up conversation where there is none

Can a player finish in top 10 without ever winning a ring?
Yes. If LeBron has no rings, he is still a top 10 GOAT in my book.

Can Jokic finish in top 10 without ever wining a ring?
It's too early to tell, most likely not since he will need to sustain a level close to this for another 8-9 years.

This is the exact reason why penalizing players for "ring chasing" is ridiculous. Most people here are saying he needs a ring to be top 10. If a player is in an AWFUL organization his entire career (LeBron his first Cavs run) and they put nothing around him, we are going to penalize him for not winning a championship?

If that's the case, NOBODY should be penalized for ring chasing.

Well it's going to depend on who makes the list, but if you're talking the NBA or some kind of national media voting group, he'll never get into the top 10 even with 2 championships. You're also forgetting that Giannis is still running around out there and he could just as easily get into that group as Jokic could. Considering how many historic greats there are, top 10 is a tough group to break.

As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think it's happening unless the Nuggets go on to get a few championships, he gets another MVP or Finals MVP, and he plays well into his 30's.

I get what you're saying, though. A completely healthy Nuggets team can definitely win a title.

Duncan won a ring in '03 where he had no all star teammates.

He had Parker, Ginobili and Robinson, but none of them were even close to their peak levels at that time.

He ended up winning more rings of course, but yes I'd expect him to get them ONE ring with no all-star teammates if he's dominant enough to win 4 MVP awards.

Yeah, but Ginobili, Parker and Robinson were even then faaaaaaaaaaaaar above where MPJ, Murray and AG are at this point in time.

Not to mention one of the greatest coaches of all time. Dismissing Duncan's team as "just Parker, Ginobili and Robinson" is almost insulting.

i mean tim duncan was all defensive first team like 8 times and second team 7 times. Thats by far the most total selections, while also playing during the Kevin Garnett Era, (who has the record for most first team selections with 9)

The top 10 basically have like a decade or more pretty close to their peak impact. It's hard to believe that he'd have GOAT level impact for 10-15 years necessary to start cracking into that tier, and NOT win a title or two. It's possible, but I think people underestimate how long the top 10 stay at or near their GOAT level impact. They basically all came into the league at MVP level or reached it very quickly, and stayed there and stayed very healthy for a long long time, that's why they all managed to turn it into rings and a ton of first team and MVP honors.
