I'm kinda torn here in my mod role. I'm not especially comfortable telling people they can't say the guy's nickname. I mean the "Kum" part is in right there in his name and it only sounds like the other word we're all thinking of. And the cat is pretty much out of the bag at this point as they say.

But at the same time I can see why it's offensive and inappropriate for RGM.

Maybe y'all could just do the mods a solid and stop saying it? That would be great.

The adults that call Kuminga that terrible, childish, offensive name have to have the mind of 15 year old that think gay jokes with their buddies is funny.

Lol, fans are terrible.

The man has the most unique last name in the league and idiots turned it into a slur for giggles.

 @ them reporting it.

I wouldn't cave into the people who find it offensive. They need to get over it. But its usually always the miniority who complain the loudest who ruin it for the rest of us so I already know where its going.

What is his nickname?

Just JK. Unless you want to use that lame ass nickname the corny smarmy announcer coined for him the human helicopter. Makes me barf. I rather call him Kaiju because that’s what he is.

Might be a little better if he was 7-2, but I kinda like that one.

Lol at the pearl-clutching over "the nickname", even from a mod.

Loosen up people. It can be read as a naughty double entendre that some people find funny and some don't, so what? What is the actual harm here?

Community standards shouldn't always be determined by the most prudish and hyper-sensitive amongst us.

It’s a different world now. I took training class on what I couldn’t say at work. Now I don’t say anything but strictly keep it about work or business.

I like that he wants to be Jonathan Kuminga and not compare to anyone. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/jonathan-kuminga-shrugs-kawhi-leonard-comp-wants-be-uniquely-himself

Work on his handles, doesn't need to be street ball Jordan Poole's handle, just pound it in and take care of the ball, he'll be good.

Agreed, and there is certainly no place for blatantly misogynist or racist or homophobic stuff in the workplace or civil discussion, but the trend of catering community standards to the most-easily offended amongst us has been taken way too far (in too many cases to the point of absurdity) and is starting to provoke considerable backlash even amongst otherwise liberal and progressive-minded people.

Also the nickname in question is a little naughty but doesn't victimize any oppressed groups I know of, unless you maybe count pornstars.

If it helps, we don't allow it on the Warriors board. We are trying to set the bar above a junior high locker room.

Thx. I'm only one of 8 mods on the GB and the reports have been open for a while. So while I was debating my personal position on it I was also waiting to see if any other mods acted on it, and no one did. So it looks like the consensus here is that it's fine.

I made my earlier post as something of a compromise, because it's just kinda gross and immature imo. But maybe we'll discuss it on the GB mod forum and see what everyone thinks going forward.

I'm trying over here you guys haha.

I mean at this point the only offended person in this thread is you. Different people are triggered by different things.

I actually think I agree with your general take on the subject. I also think you're massively overreacting to this particular case and mischaracterizing what I said.

No one got in trouble for saying it. I didn't even say people couldn't say it. And I certainly didn't clutch my pearls. I only asked for folks to be cool and please make the personal decision to not say it. But if you feel the need to say *** Bucket for some reason ok fine lol.

If I put myself in Kuminga's shoes I don't think I'd love people calling me that on the internet. And for all we know there are 8 year old Kuminga fans and who are reading this thread and asking their mom what a *** Bucket is. We have a wide range of different people here and try to create an atmosphere where everyone is comfortable. So I was just asking for people's voluntary help on the matter. Seemed pretty innocuous to me.

I still prefer the Kuminga pick to either Giddey or Wagner. I think JK will pass those two.

What exactly is the double entendre? There’s really only one way to read it. Might be the dumbest nickname anyone has ever come up with. Genuinely feels like the online community has devolved back to middle school.

I loved what I saw pre draft from him. And I went through a lot of the videos of the candidates predraft. He was the only one that stood out with superstar potential.

In a way he’s fortunate that some Warriors are healing or dealing with personal issues so he could get the minutes. Also it looks like Kerr is integrating him more and more into the game plan.

What’s the world coming to these days? I mean come on. I come on this board because I love basketball, and sports are supposed to be fun.

Jokes aside, I really don’t get why some find the nickname this offensive.
It’s vulgar, and I’m sure Kuminga isn’t a fan , but I don’t see how it’s crossing some boundary
Maybe I’m missing something, but it’s not homophobic or hate speak in any shape or form imo. It’s also not this personal insult to him. It’s just a pun on his name.
