I've heard a few people say that's the same for marrying as well!

Wood is a very talented player, but he is a stupid fool (in my opinion) if you watch the games he ends up making you desperate. tremendously selfish player, does not play as a team...on offense he will place a soft screen and raise his arms asking for the ball like crazy...when the ball reaches him...the play is over... In defense, it's not that he's terrible... he doesn't try, he continually gets lost in rotations and will look for some spectacular block, etc..

Acceptable risk-reward signing. The Lakers have proven that players can rejuvenate their careers with them (Walker, Schroeder) and land better deals after that. For Wood it will be the year of truth: if he can't show he can contribute to this Lakers team and be one of the better Centers on this roster, then his NBA career may be over sooner than he thinks despite his offensive talent.

Ok I’m confused- did anyone watch this guy play?

The national media making it seem like the lakers just signed KAJ!?!

Is wood that good and was under utilized in Dallas???

He's in the Drummond/Whiteside mold IMO, all stats, no impact.

However, he's going to be basically Thomas Bryant. When Davis plays, he's either getting 15 mins max or not playing at all when we go for more defense, Hayes taking his spot.
Basically we're gonna have the Thomas Bryant/Wenyen Gabriel battle, but with Wood and Hayes.

He was signed for those 20-25 regular season games Davis will inevitable miss. I don't know if either he or Lebron will play in any back to backs this year and you just know an injury or two is inevitable for AD.

When that happens, you need some extra offense on the team from the frontcourt and Wood fits that bill.

Nothing more. He won't sniff PT in the playoffs if the Lakers get there and he won't start or sniff minutes next to AD at any time, like some expect. He's a DNP/backup most nights, starter when AD sits. That's it.

The most hilarious take:

"He's been the same guy for eight years and passed around like lit cancerous nuclear dynamite, but now that he's on the Lakers he will crack down, play D, quit the wild chucking, and get on board with the team concept and be a locker-room leader."

Yep, stuff is legal in Cali, obviously.

If you guys think he’s a impact player I got news for you. He’s one of the worst defensive players in the league and he puts up empty stats. He’s only going to take a spot from a guy who can actually make a difference for the Lakers like someone who can guard Jokic like Mcgee or Dwight. He’s also going take minutes away from the guys already on the team who could make greater impact than him.

Decent troll attempt ..6/10

The Lakers needed a three-point shooting big like Wood and now they have one. The more spacing around LeBron and AD the better.

This is basically a low risk medium reward type of move. As a Lakers fan I love the big man depth that the team is building with Jaxon Hayes, Woods, Vanderbilt and even Hachimura and James can play small ball Center in some spots. This should help keep Davis’ minutes fairly low. I also fully expect that Woods could end up like Bamba and not get any run in the playoffs and complaining

Wood has to be one of the biggest wastes of talent in the NBA right now. On paper , guy shoots over 50% from the field and 38% from 3. He rebounds. He blocks shots. He's a fantastic athlete. He can catch and shoot, post up, and drive. And yet, you watch him play and somehow he manages to take all of that and be a neutral or negative player most nights.

Agreed which is why he ends up on a vet min type contract at the end of FA.

He can eat some minutes during the regular season to help with scoring and keep AD fresh. I will bet there is next to zero chance he will be an impactful player in the playoffs. After AD it's mainly quantity moreso than quality and they have to be hoping a few of these Hayes/Wood types can actually help them this season. It's basically a vet min type deal so not a huge risk by the Lakers.

This signing along with Prince and retaining D'Lo brings hope that they will improve on their perimeter shooting.
Last season they had a horrible start with Beverley struggling to his his normal clip, same with Lebron coupled with the horrible form of Westbrook and AD. I am hoping James can regain some of his shooting rhythm if not, be very judicious about taking them, same with AD.

It is a fine signing. Makes enough sense. AD will be out and that’s where this vet min guy will get his minutes. Nothing much to see here beyond that.

The problem with this is that it's not the lakers fans saying a lot. It's all the laker haters.
We don't expect him to be high impact.

He isnt great, but his 3PT shooting will be useful as a 8th man at least. That is assuming he shoots within the flow, which is a big ask for Wood.

Think Muscala could have brought that shooting on much more predictable cadence but Wood is worth a flyer.
