Starting to think that a lot of NBA players current and ex are turning on ESPN and TNT and aren’t afraid of being more open about it. Like they talk with them because they’re contractually obligated but really don’t like the main people who talk basketball. And whether TNT and ESPN want to admit this or not that lies solely at the feet of Shaq/Barkley and clearly SAS.

Holy crap. Between NBC the GOAT returning, Blake Griffin and Dirk for Amazon.. next year the NBA media is gonna be insane

This is a huge eff-ing deal and maybe the biggest media get in NBA history. Jordan hardly talks in general but getting him to comment on the current game with any analysis no matter how small is massive. How the hell did NBC get this done because I’m sure networks for years have tried to get Jordan to even make a guest spot talking about current NBA basketball. ESPN is probably fuming right now.

Hopefully Jordan doesn't talk like Shaq

Jordan has an ego but his IQ for talking hoops and strategy is light years ahead of Shaq. Let’s be honest, Shaq is kind of dumb.. he’s just 7’1 and 350 lbs. Mike is going to be a monster improvement over someone like Shaq who is more of a troll and has no insight.

Kobe for example was a genius off the court talking X’s and O’s, and giving analysis. But sadly we didn’t have him very long. But in his interviews it was obvious how much he studied the game.

Drunk Jordan would likely still offer better analysis than Shaq or any of the ESPN guys.

He obviously won't be as bad as Shaq, but I think people are going to be disappointed by Jordan. The guy isn't going to be watching many NBA games beyond the ones he's assigned to, and he's going to do what most former players do and analyze today's game based primarily on knowledge from their era.

Any Jordan appearances on NBC will boost NBA's viewership ratings.

What I do know is that TNT IS a good thing and this would mean the end of the NBA on TNT, the end of Inside the NBA, and that would be a tragedy.

NBC>TNT.

NBC made every game feel like the Super Bowl.

Yeah, 30 years ago. None of the producers who worked at NBC then would be working on this current iteration of the program.

I grew up with the NBA on NBC and that theme song gives me nostalgia shivers, but this will be a new program, and we don't know if it'll be good or bad.

Damn. Tough crowd. Jordan isn’t the type to commit to something and half ass it. You should know that with the competitiveness he showed against the Knicks. But it was likely before your time.

LeBron needs to retire ASAP so they can get them both on the show.

I just want NBA coverage to feature actual NBA coverage, and to stop being so relentlessly negative.

Agree.

MJ doesn't have to provide amazing analysis.

Just being able to see and hear from him is really cool.

I still prefer CBS's NBA coverage over NBC.

I legit can't remember MJ ever talking hoops in any...even remotely serious capacity. A lot of guys have said they have called him to pick his brain so I'm legit interested. But...I've NEVER heard the man break down anything.

Imagine if they took breaks instead of commercials and discussed what plays teams are running? Imagine if a new generation of fans got to actually understand the sport. I still remember Chuck Daly breaking down plays back in the 90's. It was how we used to learn.

He’d probably be a mainstay for longer, but it won’t be as good.

I think Jordan would've been a better gm/owner if he could Actually analyze the game well
But NBC nuthugged Jordan more than anything back in the day, it's a good partnership

He is contracted to CBS for NFL and NCAA hoops. Non-compete for broadcast duties. That's why he's going to Amazon and why Kevin Harlan is probably also going to Amazon.

He sure as hell half-assed his ownership of the Hornets. Don't be so naive. He's doing this because NBC is giving him a ton of money. Jordan wants to play golf, smoke cigars, drink, enjoy life as a billionaire. He's not going to spend his time watching basketball to provide better analysis when he has no reason to. He's going to be a lot more Inside the NBA than he will be a Tim Legler.

You're probably right, nostalgia is a big part of it.

That said, those Sunday afternoon double headers that kicked off with Roundball Rock were entertaining.
