It looks like most of you don’t understand what winning basketball is. You’re trying to convince me that apparently a top 10 player in the league can’t win more games than when they were tanking the year prior ? Starts to make you sound stupid when you’re convinced he could’ve been a #1 on a championship team hey ..

Looks you don’t understand basketball period. The league was FAR tougher this last season than the year before. We had 5 teams out West with 50 wins (almost six with the Suns at 49 wins) vs just 2 50 win teams in the West the season prior.

The only one sounding stupid here is you.

If you’re a “top 10 player” already I expect you to win more games for your team than they did the previous year. They were tanking too which makes it look worse that he couldn’t string at least one more win lol

This thread exists because of you.

The results are in but you don’t like the results. Shocking.

All I see is a bunch of people who are completely in awe of the physical tools & no regard for the intangibles.

1:1 assist to turnover ratio & couldn’t muster up one more win than his tanking team the previous year.

I’ll happily take the guy that lead his team to a championship 3 weeks ago.

The case for Wemby is pretty simple. Replace Tatum with Wemby and the Celtics still win the title.

This argument is weak. A hypothetical is not a fact. We have no idea how a rookie would preform in the playoffs much less the Finals.

For the upcoming season? I'm taking Tatum. Proven player who has gotten it done at the highest levels of the game. Wemby might end up being the next Kareem but he's still extremely young and you don't win titles with players that young.

Is this what we’re doing? Tatum is just going to keep growing and have no holes in his game? This is what is happening to humans now? What are we even doing?”

“Yeah. Kyle, turn the Tik Tok camera on. I think Tatum might be best centre since Kareem. He is. He just is.”

Your team can add either Victor Wembanyama or Jayson Tatum for one season and one season only, next year the 2024-25 NBA season. You don't have to give anything up for either, but you can only pick one. The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs are willing to lend them to your team for one year, but after the season they go back to their original team.

Who are you taking?

Tatum.

Swap wemby for Tatum on Celtics they don’t win title

well we're talking about next year, but to your point they would've still won, only in 4 instead of 5 games.

No bias at all my man, no bias at all.

EDIT:
For the record I chose Wemby. Just like most people did. It's just hilarious to me that you felt the need to still tilt the favour for Wemby with a clearly biased post, as if we needed your persuasion to make that choice.

Let me see !!! One is an NBA Champion. The other played one year and his team was the worst in the league! What a joke of a question

I love Wemby just as anyone but there is this weird cult on here that if you proclaim anyone else over him you are chastised into the oblivion...can we wait until this dude proves it first?

It's just ridiculous. PROVE IT

Tatum being 1st team last year was such a joke. All the Celtics fans saying “how can you be the #1 seed without All NBA 1st team” like All NBA is an individual play award. Basketball is the only sport like this in all other sports you have dudes get MVPs and All team selections even if their team sucks (Like Mike Trout, Ohtani, Davante Adams, etc.)

Also this Celtics team is literally designed to be the #1 seed without an All NBA guy.

I like how all of the Tatum fans are using 2024 as an argument for 2025. The question is who would you rather have in 2025 not who was the better player in 2024

Wemby all day. He will be a top 5 player next season, book it

I think it's pretty cool that as many as 48(and counting) Celtics fans frequent the GB. That's could be even more than Lakers fans!

 this angle that Tatum is this revered hero with incredible intangibles even tho he had to disappear and stop chucking for his team to finally make it work is funny. I remember him disappearing and being dreadful when they needed him most until the team was just good enough to take over for him instead of him trying to go Kobe mode and failing.

Wemby might be the greatest physical talent we've ever seen, but there's still a mental side to the game. He's never had to deal with the pressure of being expected to win. He's never had a teammate good enough where he has to learn to mesh his game with theirs. He's never played a team 3 games in a row, never mind a full playoff series where the gameplans are much more developed.

I don't know what Wemby's development curve would be. I'd bet good money he eventually passes Tatum. But I'd be surprised if was this year.

Yeah there’s a lot of bad takes in this thread. The amount of Tatum disrespect is pretty crazy these days.

Seems like a complete disregard for winning. It's far easier to stuff the statsheet on a bad team.
Too many playing fantasy basketball.

its easier to stuff a win column playing with 4 guys playing at all star level.

What’s funny is Wemby would probably lose this same poll to LeBron who would lose to Tatum. Realgm is a strange place

This is crazy to me. People are saying they expect Wemby to be better than Tatum already next year? That's just wild to me. I don't see it happening so fast. I think people are letting their emotions dictate their choice here a little too much because of how exciting Wemby is as a prospect. Sophomores tend to have some issues too so we'll see about that aspect too. Maybe in 3 or 4 years it'll be true but if I had to pick one player just for this 1 year I'd choose Tatum.

Wemby is also a gamble because I dont know how healthy he will be playing an entire season plus an entire post season through NBA finals. Tatum has proven to be a healthy player for like 7 seasons now. I trust in that already proven consistency.
