For a team that’s capped out and has a cheap ownership group they NEED these second round picks they’re spending on older college players to turn into rotation players to remain competitors.

If Denver is signing up for a future where they only have like 5 real NBA players on the roster and then is going to try to fill the gaps with washed up vets I don’t see them contending for titles.

Jalen Pickett is terrible in summer league this year. He regressed big time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t on the team by the time the season rolls around

We'll see how it works out, but it looks like a slight downgrade to the starting unit but a slight upgrade to the bench.

They don't have the money for Tyus, who also wants to start. Westbrook is signing for the minimum.

What is jones market

Probably needs to be a sign and trade, unless Detroit or Utah uses their capspace on him.

Unfortunately it looks like Pickett is not able to contribute to the Nuggets, let alone an NBA team. Hope not for his sake, but he's not going to make it in Denver. It's not about developmental minutes, the dude just doesn't fit.

For a vet min, Westbrook is a fine addition.
Hopefully he realizes that he shouldn't be starting.

Westbrook is good addition for regular season, since he has a lot of energy and is mostly healthy, but i hope Nuggets don't expect usefull minutes from him in PO. Everyone who watched NBA last 5-6 years knows who Russell Westbrook is. He brings energy to the table and that is about it. In the moments when every play counts, he shouldn't sniff the court.

I'm intrigued. Westbrook had some very positive stretches for the Clippers last year. He did things on defense and as a screener that he'd flat out refused to do most of his career.

He posted his lowest turnover rate ever, and curbed his tendency to jack a lot of pull up threes. He took way more shots closer to the basket. He's really not a good scorer (or obviously shooter) but he can come in and give Denver a different look with his athleticism and passing. Find MPJ some clean looks.

The Nuggets have to be a bit creative at this point.

Jokic apparently wants him which in my mind makes all the difference.

Ain't no if.

Westbrook has been like this his entire career. Love the energy he brings, but man he's hard to watch in the playoffs.

Russ should be on a team with no expectations so he can continue to feel up the stat sheet and retire as one of the best triple dub pg's to ever play. He's not a winning player for contending teams.

Even with all of his baggage he is still better than Reggie. An upgrade for sure. Reggie was ass

He's a upgrade sure. But he's also a downgrade when the playoffs start. He is known to be a huge momentum killer. The guy can go on a run by himself and take teams out of the game. If he gets benched he catches an attitude. That's not someone I would want on my team if I was chasing a championship.

Congrats Denver. I think Russ will be much better for the franchise than the average poster here thinks.

Russ was pretty decent on the Clips but once Harden arrived, he was forced to the bench and it was very difficult for him to adjust. He was always the first down the court and his energy really drove the team pre Harden, but he needs the ball in his hands.

His scoring wasn't bad, but his missing of at least two layups each game was very frustrating. For a team like Denver, Russ will speed up the game and that should help them significantly. Best of luck to one of the nicest guys who ever played the game.

Basically you are still kind of swapping him for KCP though and just moving the deck chairs around. Braun played the most minutes of anyone off the bench who didn't' start much. Moving him into KCP's role and adding Westbrook, likely into an even larger minutes role than Braun had minutes is basically the equivalent of that because Braun is still Braun in the rotation. I expect you'll still see Murray and Westbrook lineups. Strathers taking the next most guard/wing minutes off the bench. Basically it's trading Westbrook and Strawthers for Reggie Jackson and KCP since Braun is still Braun only playing a few more minutes.

It's a waste of Jokics prime years regardless. They aren't improving and really adding helpful parts.

I actually love his fit in Denver. LAL had no shooters around him. LAC Had too many chefs in the kitchen.

I'd look at Russ for a lot of the non-jokic minutes. Surround him with guys like Braun, Gordon, MPJ. Athletic squad who can run and shoot and he will put up his numbers and make a big impact.

Great zero risk move for Denver.

I hated this, but if Jokic signed off this, I can talk myself into it.

One thing he will bring that has been missing since Bruce Brown departure is his reckless downhill rim attack. Christian Braun is the closest one but he is more of a cutter then a dribble driver. As good as Murray is he is not a downhill athlete, he is a pull up artist. Murray also never had a vet play alongside or behind him so maybe Westbrook can push him in the regular season. I also think Jokic will need to adapt to Westbrook play style, just because he can.

High risk high reward signing and if it doesn't work it's vet min they can just cut/waive him.
