He wasn't always that thicc. Just look at the pictures when he was the Euroleague MVP and the ROTY. IIRC he was around 225-230 lbs during those 2 years. If he could've kept his weight around 235-240 lbs no one would have complained about his weight and even at that weight, he would probably weigh as much as or more than some Power Forwards

Joker and AD are centers, being fat or not well conditioned (which btw has never been an issue in AD's case) for a center is far less of a problem than if you play at point guard.

I don't know but I will say this. Most players who get to the finals and lose would use that as motivation to get in shape and improve over the summer. Luka just got fat. It does say something about his character if getting that close to an NBA title doesn't spark a fire under you.

Not sure how this is the conclusion when he’s injured and probably just haven’t been healthy enough to work out. But if this is true, then you get him help not trade him.

People here have clearly never heard of Vin Baker. His last season before his alcoholism became a problem he was an All-Star and All-NBA 2nd team, after that he never had another positive VORP season and his numbers dropped off a cliff, you can see it even in his late 20s. Shawn Kemp, Eddy Curry, and Zion are also examples of what can go wrong with diet even for an All-Star level player, it's not unprecedented.

I'm not saying Luka will go the way of any of these players, but clearly the Mavs were not comfortable giving him a supermax (up to $80M/year with the increasing cap levels). There's no question they will have tried everything they can to this point, begging him to eat better and cut down on the booze, getting a better offseason training regimen and working hard to be the best player in the league. But when that doesn't work you have to look out for the franchise first, if they tried to fix him and couldn't, trading him was the only option, especially if he was planning on leaving in a couple of years anyway.

Why did they not do their due diligence? Did they call anyone else? That's mismanagement. How can you explain that he didn't ask to be traded there and you didn't get a 2nd or 3rd offer to compare?
