Maybe the plan is to send Riley on a wild goose chase but all along he was never going to sign an extension with anyone. After the trade deadline, you know you can irritate Riley even more by forcing his team to answer questions about why they're not waiving him.

He's obviously willing to bet on himself and become an FA this summer rather than agree to an extension with one of only Miami's preferred teams. I guess he'll only agree if he gets his dream spot, otherwise better off becoming a UFA this summer and studying all his options on the open market.

Do that and pass up his 52 million dollar player option? Seems risky to me.

At that point Miami might be glad that he's gone.

It seems like Butler is saying "trade me, but only to one place". He's old enough to know that this isn't how this works.

It’s fine for teams to only want to trade for him if he’ll sign an extension, and it’s fine for Jimmy to not want to commit to that. Fully agreed.

The problem is he is refusing to give full effort and play for the team he is under contract with, and demanding to be traded while also having those other demands. In that scenario absolutely the contract should be voided, he’s not honoring it.

If he would show up and do his job while requesting to be traded, then there’s no problem. He is failing to do that. And no the suspensions aren’t the reason he’s not showing up, that started before all that. There was a game earlier this season he missed where he claimed to be ill and it got leaked he was actually partying at a club that night. It’s unprofessional.

I agree his treatment of Miami has been egregious, even worse than VC back in the day or Harden on the Nets. Even if he wants out, there's no excuse for that.

Nowhere does it says or is it implied by Jimmy's camp that he won't play for his new team because he wants a certain destination only.
