For the last 30 years I thought if a player took more than 1 dribble after the pass it wasn't an assist. I've been living a lie.

It has nothing to do with Jokic...the first clip is obviously in the Pacers arena. I don't understand how these random twitter people get so popular and are allowed to spew nonsense like this.

Not concerned with Jokic but score keepers in general are given too much power in the modern era of micro gambling. It wouldn't be hard for the league to facilitate a more accurate/consistent system

ASSISTS ARE ONLY COUNTED IF THEY LEAD TO A 1 OR 2 STEP, OR 1 DRIBBLE BUCKET

it would the most easily enforced stat in basketball. it would prolly lead to a 90% drop in apg but who cares. pgs will get their flowers regardless

I think more fairly would have been if they count pass that leads to shooting foul under the basket and free throws as an assists. If they count that as an assists and cut ones that are not, Jokic would have averaged the same number.

Fair question. A lot of his passes are just unreal.

Most of them are real.

It's the ones where he's giving a DHO where the guard still has to dribble into the paint and makes contested shot that are iffy

Have you been watching Pacers? Here are all of Haliburton's 15 assists vs Houston.

No 5 to Nesmith - pass, fake, drive, they count it as assist
No 14 to Nesmith - pass, fake, 2 dribbles, floater = assist

That is how they count it.

You realize the Pacers are doing that? How about we do Luka, LeBron and other players to see how many fake assists they have too

Absolutely insane that he's given assists on some of them.

Makes us have to question the validity of his numbers.

-They are assists if you score in the same momentum created by the pass. Everyone enjoys this, not just Jokic.
-Jokic has some of the highest quality assists, dunks and layups galore. This isn't a topic to argue, Won't end well, steer clear.

You are absolutely right, it was more like 31/21/20 (or 19, or 18...). What a fraud

he's not getting any special treatment..these are usually count as assists for everyone. why isn't everyone avging 10+ assists?

it's also a very small portion of his assists, anyone who actually watches him would know that, if there was a stat for generating open looks for teammates in favorable positions in particular dunks, open lay-ups and open 3's - Jokic would be the leading that stat by a mile...

Closest thing you can get on a widely available stat would be potential assists

https://www.nba.com/stats/players/passing?dir=D&sort=POTENTIAL_AST

potential assists is very different, i'm talking about the quality of the looks. i'm sure this data exists it's just not publically available

Many of his assists come off DHOs. I don't care about the assists in these clips that's how it is for everyone. But nobody racks up DHO assists like Jokic, and they boost his ratings that many here are only capable of assessing players through pretty significantly. Its clear as day, but I'm sure many will attack the notion, like always.

Agreed. He frequently makes passes other guys can’t, so I seriously doubt they are real. AI generated assists

#5 I can see it, close call.
#14 Not a assist, at all.

Out of 15 assists, I guess that's not bad. 1 shouldn't have been, one questionable. The rest were very legit.

I guess I really wasn't aware that assists were given out so easily. As long as everyone is treated equally I'm OK with it. I'd rather have my mistaken belief 1 dribble rule. :D
