If they can somehow keep Fox, *Harper and Castle, KD at SF makes them favorites to win it all imo.

what's the point of being scary today when you can be terrifying in the future. You are forcing the timeline much like the Suns did and look where it got them.

3 of those guys have never played a single playoff game. You simply don’t win championships in the nba with teams that inexperienced. Even with OKC the young stars like Chet and JDub have been incredibly inconsistent in the playoffs, they had to bring in vets like Caruso and Hartenstein before they were ready to win.

sometimes windows dont stay open for more than 2 or 3 years. wemby is healthy right now. poor track record of guys his size staying healthy long term.
suns method wasnt incorrect...what killed them was the unnecessary beal trade. his ntc was the poison.

Woah! Let's slow down there.
Young, inexperienced teams with no playoff experience just don't win a Championship all of a sudden unless you're the 1977 Portland Trailblazers (Bill Walton, Maurice Lucas, coach Jack Ramsay, etc). Iol. It's rare
That was a long time ago.
We need the experience first but who knows.

Just let them build chemistry together and keep working from future drafts. There's no way you're getting KD without Harper and Castle being involved.
I don't think KD's value is as high as you think it is. the scenarios i've seen have been something like Vassell + Barnes + 14 pick which i think would be a fine trade
you obviously don't consider giving up Harper or Castle for KD.
There's no way Suns trade KD without getting one of them in return.
Suns won't get one of them. Suns should be asking other teams what they would give if anything for Vassell.

People also underrate how many top picks are busts. Deangelo Russell and Lonzo Ball were 2nd picks and were blah… Harper could very be the same type of player. He isn’t a knockdown shooter, doesn’t have athleticism that is out of this world. I am being completely objective, I would not be surprised if someone else ends up being better than him 2 or 3 years from now in the draft.

Love the Wemby/KD frontcourt and it wouldn’t cost their major assets. Think this gets done.

You like to tank
Why's that, now? We were supposed to be contenders with Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell leading the title run? Or do you mean in '97, when our best player was 37-year-old Dominique who hadn't played in an all-star game in three years?
Maybe you think we like to tank because we got #1 picks 26 years apart. It's an epidemic!
Black Jack wrote:most likely got the draft lottery rigged for you
Yes, that's the likeliest scenario, based on the mountain of evidence I'm sure you're sitting on. You should take it public. Does every team get the draft lottery rigged for them, or only the Spurs once every 26 years?
Black Jack wrote:Spurs would be lucky to get KD
Sure, for the right price. But people need to remember that he isn't the same KD who was single-handedly carrying dead-weight teams like the 72-win Warriors to the Finals a decade ago.

A 37 year old KD. I wouldn't trade Fox for him straight up.
Spurs just need to continue on the path they are on.
It's too soon to go all in. That's what I feel like a trade for KD is, for any team, he aint' got much time left.

Durant is a great fit on the Spurs ... screw any "timeline" talk. At worst you give up a couple picks when you have a surplus and Durant's contract comes off soon, and you can chase someone else. Without looking at salaries if they can get Durant for spare sparts (Barnes, Johnson, etc.) and a few 1st rounders (not #2) it's a no brainer in my opinion. They have so many 1st rounders, trade some.

This isn't anywhere near all in. Barnes and his expiring contract and great 3s shooting and durability, also younger vet than KD, Vassell and good 3&D as well as good mid range game, a younger ready to win now player, and picks (not #2).
It's consolidating some assets of players and picks.

A 37 year old KD is still better than Fox will ever be. The man can still put the ball in the hoop with the best of them.
And if they're going to take Harper with the #2 pick, they might as well move off of Fox now. They don't need two ball dominant guards with shaky jumpers.

You both make very good points. You guys have a abundance of assets.
I guess the Spurs would be kinda like my team. We had a young team with some very good players and then got Paskal, it jumped us ahead of schedule.

Thanks! The thing to keep in mind is we know what we have with Barnes and Vassell. Quality divided into two players, but it's not KD quality and gravity.
Also, with Klutch playing a bigger role on our team (Keldon, Fox, Mitch Johnson signed to them) and us honouring our word (CP3 was promised a starting position, he did so the entire season), the likelihood is that Fox gets re-signed. Castle was fine off ball. But with Fox, Castle, and Harper, it squeezes out a very solid off ball Vassell. Might as well use the chance to trade for a scoring upgrade.
Lastly, any KD extension will be short. So the primary issue is raising floor while Wemby is on the rookie contract and not having too much overlap with his eventual extension.
Wemby is ready now. We have to show we are willing to make upgrades to support his growth.
