Anything can happen in a single-elimination tournament. That's kind of the fun of them.
You're trying too hard to be negative here.

I am not trying hard to be negative, I literally provided video evidence of Jokic being targeted on defense in the 4th qtr giving up over 16 points in a close game due to lazy defense. A poster above who also watched the tournament said Jokic came in 15 pounds overweight so I am not just pulling stuff out of my rear end.

I also linked an article of Darko Milicic stating what many Serbians feel that Jokic, while obviously great, isn’t the main cog that was needed but instead it was Bogdan Bogdanovic.

I agree with everything you said but i want to highlight this quote.

This is the problem for many fans on this board when reading/reacting to Jokic posts the last years...

Man has an excellent offensive 4-5 year peak and suddenly he's the clear cut best in the world.
He should have won not 3 but 5 MVPs,he is amazing, his team sucks,he is better than the Dream,he is better than Duncan,he would beat Shaq in the 00s etc etc...

Thing is,Jokic is a top3 player in the NBA for half a decade and won a ring.
He is an amazing Offensive big man and a highly limited Defensive player.

Hyberbole from fans during his wins will bring hyperbole from non fans during his losses..
That's how it goes...

I am admittedly a noob when it comes to EuroBasket so I just observed the thread and tried to watch as many games as I could. As I said, I am Basketball starved and the tournament has provided great entertainment.

Dr Aki wrote:I mean, it's pretty obvious Jokic is a one-way player. He's always been a one-way player, he'll always be a one-way player. The Nuggets have always employed athletic wings and guards and a defensive system to prevent Jokic from being continuously hunted on the perimeter.

That doesn't seem to hurt his ranking though. Players like Curry, Luka, KAT etc... and going further back Shaq and Magic were defensively disinclined.

You just have to have the personnel and to gameplan around their defensive weaknesses.

I agree.

In your opinion, can a one way player be considered the best player since Michael Jordan like i have seen countless threads state over the years?

This is really all I am getting at - why isn't he held to the same standard?

This is a guy who we say should have 5 MVPs but yet when he only shoots one shot in the 2nd half of a game 7, where is the criticism? I am old enough to remember folks endlessly ridiculing Kobe Bryant and calling him a quitter when he didn't shoot vs the Suns in the playoffs and passed the ball. But Jokic takes even less shots and there isn't a peep about it?

Jokic is on the wrong end of the biggest game 7 collapse vs Minnesota two years ago, why isn't that brought up? I still see LeBrons 2011 Finals brought up but with Jokic its like we erase the bad out of our minds.

And now Jokic is on the wrong end of what FIBA is claiming to be the biggest upset of the century, where is the criticism? He was attacked relentlessly on defense and was overweight, yet I don't see a thread about it on RealGM. But I see two three threads on LeBron's nike commercial and Lebron losing to the Spurs 18 years ago.

I am simply just holding the guy to a standard. I hope others do the same .

There's silence because most people aren't paying attention to a second rate tournament.

Never been banned or never had an alt account.

Haven't said one thing in this thread that is out of bounds, just making others aware of what Fiba is calling the biggest upset of the century and asking hard questions about who many consider the best player in the world.

B.S. over 90 percent if your posts are about hating on Jokic since you started this alt account. You make it so obvious

If you hold the mantle of being the best player in the world, I don't care if it's a game of ping pong, all eyes will be on you and you will be judged.

LeBron James is 41 years old and there was just an 8 page thread on him because of a commercial. But that kind of spotlight and hate comes with being the best in the world for over 15 years.

Jokic has 3 MVPs and many feel like he should have even more then James, so yes any time he plays the game of basketball i am paying attention. I don't care if its Euro or NBA. I am noticing a disturbing trend when it comes to Jokic not impacting his team winning on the highest of levels. Many Serbians feel they are better off without him and don't view him as the most important player on the team. Thats not alarming to you for a guy some are saying is at a greater peak than Jordan/LeBron?

So what you're saying is, you're ignoring his entire body of work and focusing on a single game in a summer tournament to justify your opinion? It's basketball. In a tournament setting, crazy things happen. Him losing in Eurobasket has literally nothing to do with his NBA career

Because the conclusion reaches about Jokic will also be applied to others this tournament if they do t win in either.

Like Giannis will be overrated if he can’t win it.
Or Doncic.
Or if say Jokic won, well. He’s only won 1 of theses, he should at least have two.

Like, another example is LeBron has won 4 championships. And yet some people think he should have more and he’s overrated and do what you’re doing with Jokic when he doesn’t win it every year. No matter what he does, it’s never enough.

Not just here look at his posting history it is all about hating jokic. It is obviously an alt account. You think if you were a fan of basketball (player or team whatever) the majority of your posts would be about them. Instead it is all about hating on one player. It is obviously an alt.

Why are you being so naive and acting surprised two of the most popular/polarizing athletes of all time in LeBron & Kobe are more scrutinized than a chubby Euro the vast majority of fans, you excluded obviously, are pretty neutral on and doesn't inspire too many feelings too positive or negative.

FIBA is full of BS. Greece's win (without Nikos Zisis, one of its best players), over the Coach K coached USA A Team in 2006, at the World Cup's medal round, is the biggest upset in FIBA this century.

Finland, a fairly decent European national team, beating Serbia, minus Bogdan Bogdanovic, in the EuroBasket round of 16, isn't even a remotely comparable upset. Not even close.

It's actually embarrassing that FIBA would even say that.

I can't even tell what OP wants. Should we not call Jokic the best player in the world because he's lost some important games? Who exactly are we supposed to give that title to then? Luka, who just had the worst year of his career since his rookie season? Or Giannis, who hasn't been out of the first round in years? Shai then I guess?

I'm guessing he really really wants that answer to be Wemby.

Did OP forget that Jokic has already won an NBA championship in 2023 and won finals MVP in a historically dominant post-season?

He also took an inferior Denver squad to game 7 against the championship Thunder squad.

Why is he acting like Jokic has never won anything, lol.

Because their ready made excuse is that they beat a bunch of playin teams and totally discounted that he faced guys like Rudy/AD/Bam not to mention Edwards/Booker/KD/Lebron/Jimmy en route to that chip. It’s the laziest, thinnest argument and not even in the easiest path in terms of SOS.
