How many rings and MVPs do they have combined?

Luka should've been MVP in 2024. And he's actually beaten a team with more than 51 wins in the playoffs before

Luka, the guy who had 4 first place votes for MVP, shoulda won it over Jokic (79) and SGA (15)?

I ask again about Zion and Luka:
How many rings and MVPs do they have combined?
Jokic 5x MVP train

To be fair...he was trying to get "fashion model" skinny...which was wild. He's also really the biggest exception to thinner is better. We even saw Duncan after bulking a few years and struggling, realize it was time to drop the weight.

Anthony Davis was the same, bulking hurt his overall mobility compared to his Pels physique

Wait what? AD added a LOT of muscle from UK to his Pel's days...

I disagree. I think it HAS been a problem for him in one particular aspect of his game, and that is his defense. Now someone else pointed out that Jokic sometimes doesn't contest shots because he's simply trying to avoid foul trouble, which makes total sense; but in the highlights of the game I watched last night, he had some defensive lapses that I think were simply due to him being a touch too slow and too heavy, where if he were a bit lighter he'd be able to move that extra bit or just close that gap a bit more where it would make a difference. I'm not saying he's a defensive liability; but he's not where he could be if he were lighter and just a tad quicker.

It's also partly him getting worn out a bit, gassed; his cardio would be better if he weren't lugging around 30 extra pounds! In particular, on the two Westbrook-to-Eubanks lobs, Jokic looked tired; right afterwards they subbed him out to give him a rest. Now that's inevitable, your main guy will get a bit tired and need a breather; but when we hit the playoffs and hopefully the Finals, they're going to need to have him on the floor as long as possible - losing that weight could be the difference between needing to rest him for 10 minutes instead of only 8 or 6 in a key game.

Yes he does. Coming into the season way overweight after the team around you upgraded is very disappointing. Unprofessional even.

And that's even with playing for his country this summer. What if he hadn't?

No its not. He was at his ideal weight in 2023. He's way above that now. Get back to 2023 weight and theres already proof of concept there performance wise.

fat Zion couldn't stay healthy and looked completely umotivated and lackluster at times when he did play

Fat Luka had trouble with durability and constant minor injuries (not even close to Zion's issues but still something) and was visibily and statisitcally much better in f1rst quarters and first halves and often looked gassed later in the game and resorted to playing no defense or just arguing with the refs and not even bothering to come back down the court to defend

Jokic is a 7 ft. ironman basically and hadn't had stamina issues for years, not even when he needs to play 40 mins
last two seasons he was beating opposing centers down the court sprinting in transition on the regular and was moving more

this season thus far he does look a bit heavier, slower and with less motor

guys itt talking about Kevin love is bad take, no1 is talking about 50 or 60 lbs..he just needs to lose a couple of lbs to get back to where he was last season

Just get back to the weight when he won the ring. Whats the difference? Maybe 20-25 lbs?

His conditioning has always been better than you'd expect given the way he looks. A lot of leaner guys seem to fatigue earlier than Jokic does. And a bit of extra size does allow him to bully more athletic but lighter players. Being heavier doesn't seem to impact him in the same way that it has guys like Zion or Luka.

That said, he's probably above his 'ideal' weight. And that may not matter right now given he's still only 30, but that could become more important going forward due to the cumulative wear-and-tear on his body, particularly the knees and ankles. The best version of Jokic at 35 probably isn't one that is carrying excess weight today.

Shaq's weight wasn't a problem either until he dropped off significantly around 32. There's an alternative reality where Shaq keeps his weight below 300 and remains dominant through to his mid-30s.

Why would you not want to stay trim at that height at the very least? His knees must take a pounding every time he runs up and down the court.

It's not even close. He's gained like 30lbs and (maybe relatedly?) has had two relatively poor postseasons since winning the title.

He looks so much better in 2023

One out of those 3 people lead their team to a championship and has 3 MVPs but could easily have 5...

People who say it doesn't hurt his overall game don't know what the counterfactual is within a given season of Jokic being at a more correct weight.

The issue isn't whether or not Jokic is better than others, it's whether he's better than his lighter version in the parallel "all else equal" universe.

I'm not a Denver fan (but I am a Jokic fan), but it seems to me like he would serve himself better by dropping 20-25 lbs and lighting that load to be less tired and cumulatively drained for the playoffs. It would probably help his movement defensively also. In terms of it helping the bumping and banging inside (either side)...it doesn't seem like a fair trade to me at a distance.

From observation, I think sometimes people overestimate the drop (as it relates to performance) from "healthy" to "shredded healthy" but underestimate the drop from "functional, but not ideal" to "healthy". To me, he should be at the form he was a few years ago w/ respect to his body.

Man, you don’t expect Joker goes all out on early regular season games… tell me a current center who has better stamina than Joker… there is no one there…

The scary thing is that he would be more effective if he played 30/25/20 years ago. I am actually surprised how great his conditioning is given that he isn’t a world class athlete like his fellow peers. Just seeing him play, it is like he is a grown man playing vs high schoolers.

That's one thing...fat or skinny the man never stops moving. He's got a motor and doesn't get nearly enough credit for it.

I did notice last night he looked thicker than he has in the past. Still plays well though
