I'll take that horribly un-nuanced answer as concession.

Huh? Concession to what?

People who succeed and are dicks are known as slave-drivers, tough people to work with, etc, but it's seen as a generally good thing. People who don't succeed and are dicks are known as cancers, can't work as a team, etc, and it's generally seen as a bad thing.

That's the fact of the matter.

You're saying "Uhh..Well, maybe Pippen helped him." Maybe he did, and? Maybe Horace Grant helped or his neighbor or his dog? ANd maybe they didn't. We can't know. Refer to my second paragraph: He got results. I mean, what are you even arguing?

If you put things in bold you automatically win the argument

Mean? You think he said and did those things to be mean? Michael Jordan is a grown man, not a bully at some middle school. He did those things to get his point across and that is how he does it. People bring this stuff up as if its new but its not. Michael Jordan comes off as mean at times, yet. But thats just how he is, he is a motivator and the kind of motivator that will do any and everything possible to wake his teammates up and get them to play Basketball on a Championship level. He tryed this in Washington and failed because that team was filled with young guys who didn't want to listen. That team wasn't willing to listen to Jordan's guidance like the Bulls teams were. Times changed, The way players(not all of them) think changed.

Jordan's teammates on the Bulls during their great run were mentally tough, and the things he said only encouraged and motivated them to play harder and show him they could hang with the best. It made those guys better and the team won 6 rings. The best teammates will always respond when the team's best player and unquestionable leader challenges them. Weak guys like Kwame will crack because they have no mental toughness, and some players seem to need the kind of motivation MJ gave, just look at Pippen during the years they didn't play together.

I don't know how you can say "when put in context". Those were all just mean comments and I don't what exact 'context' makes them right?

Phil Jackson I think once said MJ said those things to challenge his teammates and see how tough they were.

Thing with Jordan is this. you either were going to step up to the challenge or shrink from it. If you couldn't take the heat from him, how were going to react in the heat of battle? How were you going to react when the pressure was on? That was his thought process.

JOrdan tested his teammates for that same reason. There was a story in the book called Jordan Rules were B.J Armstrong took offense to somethilng MJ said and said "F#@k you MJ". Apparently two became close friends after that.

WHy do you think MJ said he "loves Ron Artest". Because although Ron is crazy he is as tough as nails. Thats what Jordan wanted or better yet demanded out of his teammates.

That being said alot of these quotes have been taken out of context. Jordan apparently had a quick, cutting type of wit ( as seen in some of these quotes), and we dont know the relationship he has with a lot of these guys.
" What I do is attack your ability. I don't have to stand over you and taunt you. You'll know when it's done that I'm better."

Mean is not the right word to describe Jordans intentions in saying these quotes. Nice guys finish last. Jordan had to be a prick to show his team that it's either kill or be killed. All he was trying to do was harden the guys around him into players that worked well under pressure.
