Seeing those unemployment insurance numbers...It's a bad time to be self-employed. Sucks, cuz I worked my ass off in full time jobs for a lot of my life, and some of them didn't even offer medical insurance or any paid holidays - coulda used it then.
Regardless, I'm glad it will help most Americans, and ultimately the economy.

Are they still going to make some folks in certain sectors go back to work before the four months is up?

So, will people still get their $1000 checks? I am self-employed, and have seen a large decline in my business due to "shelter in place".
It is very likely to include a $1200 check to all applicable adults (those that make less than 75K a year - who will likely receive a smaller check). I have not read the bill obviously, but that is what is being reported.

Pretty incredible stimulus package. I just hope we now come through and get testing + equipment out immediately while the vast majority of American public has little to no excuse not to stay home.
I am a bit curious whether those who are eligible to bolster their unemployment benefits by up to 2X will ALSO get the stimulus check.

Not good if true, BUT if unemployment is going up like 2.5x and we can get approved, I guess it balances.

Unfortunately epidemies don't have an expiration date and you can't schedule them to human's benefit

One thing I can tell you is it's getting crazy in China. The phrases I am hearing is "the world is fighting for these resources". I was just talking to a representative from a local hospital here for a quote on 1000 KN95 masks, two hours later my contact in China told me 1) that $2 unit price is not available anymore 2) the minimum order goes from 1k to 10k.
Didn't Cuomo just say NY has 5k ventilators right now and they can't get hold of another 30k in two weeks it's game over? That's pretty scary stuff. We are working on ventilator deliveries as early as April 10th...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-18/99-of-those-who-died-from-virus-had-other-illness-italy-says
According to article roughly 1% of c19 deaths had 0 illnesses, 25% 1 illness, 25% 2 illnesses, and 49% three illnesses.
So despite the occasional anecdotal evidence, people overwhelmingly dying from this were sick to begin with.

A couple virus experts have gone on record that the real death rate is well below 1%,

Dr. Dan Yamin puts the range between 0.3 and 0.45%
Amesh Adalja says the upper bound is 0.6%, the minimum being a little over the seasonal flu at 0.1%. (skip to 8:25)
The theory is it is highly likely that a much greater number of people have it than are recorded as confirmed cases. Many people, (especially those below 70 and healthy) show no symptoms and will never be tested.

A huge % of the population are "sick", having an illness that requires medication. You can add to that smokers and obese people, and suddenly the at risk group becomes much worse than old people.
I was just listening to a Joe Rogan podcast where he mentions Micheal Yo got it, and it was so bad where he was sure he was going to die... And he said he is a guy that's in shape and far from being a risk group.
So really guys, stay inside... The more people that are smart here, the shorter the impact of this will be

If you multiply 0.6% times just the US population that comes out to almost 2 million deaths.
Letting this take this course and not doing everything we can to fight it is tantamount to suicide or genocide (take your pick).

In your link I think posting this part would have shed more light on those statistic
More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease.

https://www.diabetes.org/resources/statistics/statistics-about-diabetes
1/3 of American adults(77mil to 78mil) have High Blood pressure and 20% don't even know it.
34.2mil American adults(10.5% of the population) have diabetes and several million are undiagnosed
According to the study from the American Heart Association, 121.5 million Americans, or about 48.5 percent, dealt with heart or blood vessel disease as of 2016.
