"Not bulletproof"? The Disney staff is allowed to leave and come back every day, and only gets temperature checks upon re-entry. This whole "it's going up in Florida but not in Disney World" argument gets thrown out the window.

Let me guess what this means in General Board speak...Clippers are afraid of Lakers. Lou Williams should just shut up and dribble.

The NBA resuming gives these players another platform to voice their concerns about whatever social/justice reforms want.. I don't see why it has to be mutually exclusive. People not protesting cause the NBA is on their TV, well did they really give a **** anyway?

I mean yea sports is normally used to distract the masses from stuff that really matters, but that doesn't have to be that way anymore.

Are people gonna be more prone to watch or read long statements from athletes and share them or would they rather watch the athletes' highlights and share those while skipping said statements altogether?

Ok...where are you going to take it to?

The NFL, college basketball, NHL, etc. I haven't seen players in any of those sports show the level of contempt for fans that NBA players have over the past few years.

The question I would pose to those with health concerns is when do you think it will be safe to play again? I have serious doubts that later this year will be any better than right now. By all accounts there is a second wave to come. Will next year be better? Maybe, but it might not be if this virus continues to circulate and no vaccine is found. If COVID-19 is here to stay, then until a vaccine or effective treatment is found it’s going to be mightily difficult to get any sports played without accepting some element of risk.

At the end of the day how long are people willing to wait for a vaccine or effective treatment? End of the year? End of next year? Indefinitely? The most optimistic estimates are 12-18 months for a vaccine but they can’t guarantee it. Even if one is found it’s going to be a challenge to create enough to vaccinate the entire population. So there are going to be significant challenges to overcome for the foreseeable future.

I am the first to admit that health comes first. I live in a shielded household. So if the players don’t feel safe then they shouldn’t play, but if the players decide not to play and the 19/20 season gets cancelled, then potentially it brings into question whether the 20/21 season can start and be played because conditions will not be significantly different, nor will they until a vaccine or an effective treatment is found, or perhaps the virus burns out.

Dare I say it, the same can even go for the social issues that people are fighting for. Is everything going to be solved by the beginning of the 20/21 basketball season? No. What about 21/22 season? I’d probably say no. There is a lot of change that needs to happen in society and that’s not going to happen overnight. The people in Washington DC and beyond are going to have to make the changes otherwise unrest and dissatisfaction is going to continue. If players don’t want to play until the social issues are dealt with, or at least until things calm down, then fair enough but there could be a very long wait. I want the changes in society to be made and until those changes are made we should all continue to demand and fight for them, but is holding out from playing sports going to make the politicians in Washington act faster? Probably not.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what come of this. In honesty I was always in the camp for cancelling the 19/20 season and focusing on how to get the 20/21 season started on time and played safely and in full. At this time they are rushing to get this season completed and will end up creating issues for next season as well.

I’ve thought since March that this was going to cost the NBA two seasons. Same for the other major sports, although baseball is pretty distanced already and they could probably wear masks because they aren’t undergoing constant activity like basketball or football.

I also think moving the Olympics to 2021 was naively optimistic, it will probably get postponed again (the Olympics is much more dangerous than a major sport, you have people from across the entire world coming together).

Very few people seem to grasp that this virus is a multi-year thing, or if they do they don’t want to say it because they sound crazy, like you probably think I do. The Spanish Flu lasted from 1918 to 1920.

The 1918-20 flu was more fatal and dangerous overall, especially for younger people- yet I don’t think they postponed baseball games. Different mentality back then I suppose

People really got the pitchforks and torches out for Kyrie on social media. Goodness gracious. People may be proving his point that the fans don’t care how they feel, they just want them out there as fodder for the title contenders. People are really out of control w/ some of the stuff they are saying now.

Having gone through the article the players do raise some interesting points, it's a pity Kyrie has been made the face of the resistance..

• Howard stressed to players that playing in Orlando will become a distraction from the issues the country is facing, and that they need to unify and use this moment to create a change.

• Mitchell expressed concerns about playing due to “being behind the 8-ball” having not played five-on-five and being thrust into a competitive environment and eight-game regular season. “We’re taking a big (injury) risk,” Mitchell said. Mitchell is up for a maximum contract extension this summer.

Not to mention that the "bubble" will actually be a "bubble with holes".

How can a bubble have holes? Once the surface breaks, the entire bubble pops. I just can't get over that they called this a bubble, it's pretty hilarious

Here's what baseball looked like durin the Spanish flu. Players and umpires wore flu masks, the season was cut off early, and the World Series helped spread a new strain of the virus and caused a second wave of the influenza in the United States. Sounds about the same mentality.

I don’t see how the league can survive with this type of resentment for the people who essentially pay their salaries. It’s bizarre.

Why did the NBA pick Orlando? There won't be any fans so couldn't it be any place that has a stadium? Why not in an area that has less going on?

Not sure if this has been answered, but the 2 WWOS gyms have a ton of courts (for AAU events they get up to about 16 I believe) and there are nice hotels on property.

Not many other places have that all in 1 place.

Most disney staff are students who also live on Disney property.

Put the Lottery, Draft, and FA back in place then. From a logistical standpoint, this does seem difficult to pull off, and I'm only talking about the so-called "bubble". That thing could easily burst.

100%

Does anyone see what Kyrie is doing as a last ditch effort by him to stop LeBron from winning?

I also think that because he is hurt and not playing, his opinion should be irrelevant. Him and KD should not even be there if they are not going to be suiting up. If they have said they are out for the season (which KD has) then there is no reason to put him or his family in the bubble.

This is not a "hang with your friends" trip. This is a business trip. If you do not NEED to be there, don't be.

Guarantee most of the players opposing the restart either don't realise the financial aspect or don't care because their finances are set. Silver needs to send these guys the spreadsheets because they will be losing serious money next season. Having a playoff helps mitigate the losses considerably

Feel the same way.

Good contrast with another super annoying arrogant guy Nate Duncan on similar topics. Him getting completely obliterated on his supposed COVID expertise has been one of my guilty pleasures the past couple days.
