The knicks going around asking teams "can we steal your coach?" is downright hilarious. This has potential 1st round exit next year vibes. They did thibs so dirty.

Unless they get an undercover home-run. The vibes are already ruined for next season. Count on it. Simply because this firing signals it's a championship or bust year and now the new coach will be under so much pressure that every loss, regardless of it's due to needing to develop a deeper roster for the playoff run, will be scrutinized. It's basically going to be a miserable season (for them) next year unless they get to the NBA Finals.

Lollll Thibs ran his course, it was actually very refreshing that the Knicks didn’t take the safe route, the Dolan lead Knicks would of and ran it back. Not losing any sleep over the Knicks trying to interview guys.

Regardless they need to hire a first timer and a veteran staff behind … at least that’s my hope

Dolan stepped in and got Thibs fired. Leon is scrambling to find a coach now. We are down bad.

I mean, have we EVER seen this scenario before? Coach leads a team to its first conference Finals appearance in 20+ years. Gets fired. Then the team goes around and ask permission to interview 5 coaches who are employed by other teams and are told NO. It’s downright comical, and reeks of incompetence.

He was out-coached by Carlisle. They had their entire team healthy for this playoff run and losing 4-2 to the Pacers is not an accomplishment, but a huge disappointment.

Glad this organization is serious about winning and not letting sentimentality get in the way of decision making. Thibs is the type of coach to make your team competitive again, but doesn’t have the flexibility or the intuitive in game decision making in high pressure situations. The first 2 games were lost by the slimmest of margins, and that’s where top tier coaching matters the most.

Thanks Thibs for making this team respectable again, but a new voice was definitely needed.

You mean the same Pacers team that's giving OKC a very hard time right now ? By that token , I guess Daigneault should get fired too!

Or just take Doc Rivers and be done with the search

Jordi Fernandez is an amazing coach now?

Go look at his work for yourself. He coached Team Canada for a reason.

He did poorly against expectations and then he quit. People were expecting more. I wouldn't call him an amazing coach.

they will not get a coach on their A-list. they will get an asst who desires to be hc, a hard up ex who wants to get back into it, or some other 6th choice on their list..........just NOT a first choice

their best chance is jenkins or malone if either cares

The team was good enough to get to the semis with a mediocre coach, but for the championship you need a really good coach, and that's why Thibs is not with the team anymore. Those who laugh at Thibs getting fired while the team got to the semis have not been following either the Knicks or how Thibs used to coach them very closely. Those who have watched know exactly why he was fired, no matter what result the team was able to achieve.

yes. i think thibs has a ceiling. he's good at what he's done on the three teams

however everyone was surprised. i mean there was a REASON for firing malone, but the optics is "nyk fired a coach who got them into the semis". nyk was an embarrassment and thibs literaly DOUBLED their wins and has maintained. the firing is not a good look - look at where they were and looked at what they are NOW

to me, thibs made everyone forget about dolan

whelp i guess dolan got his revenge. rumor is he's the one behind getting thibs fired

At minimum this is a pr problem. Anyone you hire now who isn’t currently employed seems like a choice way down your list. Asking to ‘speak to’ coaches under contract basically equals offering them a job. The next Knicks coach will be their 6th choice for the position at minimum not even including the current coaches so unavailable they didn’t even bother making the failed requests.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Only a matter of time until the Knicks ask RealGM for permission to talk to one of the users on their head coaching vacancy. Who do we choose? Or will we deny permission as well?

It's time for Leon Rose to apologize to Thibs and ask him to come back.

He really should if they lose this. They won their conference by 16 games, they were huge favourites in the final, and they have the most talented roster in the league. You figure if they don't win, they shouldn't go after a coach who can win it for them?

And they won those 68 games with another coach? If Daigneault won only ,50 games he would be excused?

Spo with prime LeBron and Wade on the team was out coached by Carlisle. It happens. If it was up for fans heat would fire their coach every year, and guess what probably heatles would be ringless
