for just about every NBA player, those who end up as good defenders don't usually become good defenders till they gain 3 or 4 years experience.

from what I've seen of Davis, he has the length and mobility to become a good defender

his biggest problem in my view is body mass. He's just so slight right now. I watched the game when Portland and New Orleans played. Three or four times the camera focused on Davis and Aldridge standing side by side. Aldridge looked to be a good 2 inches taller and was clearly much bigger & heavier physically. And Aldridge doesn't have a Karl Malone physique either. Also, it was pretty clear the difference wasn't due to camera angle

Davis, if he becomes a good defender, will probably have to go the route of Marcus Camby. Use mobility and footwork to become a dominant force in the paint and on the boards

But I don't know that Davis will ever be as physical as other long players like Tim Duncan or Aldridge, and that will be a disadvantage

Davis is still only 19, he's got broad shoulders and I don't think he'll have any issue filling out. Dell Demps also said recently that he's grown a half inch since being drafted and that the MRI showed he was still growing.

Didn't say that he's grown since then. The fact is that he's 19 and has the body to put on weight. Look at kg or Dwight when they were rookies. People grow, bro.

Or he could stay fairly thin, not everyone can bulk up, see Tayshaun Prince.

I think getting a Duncan/KG style physique would be great for AD. Gives him the strength to contest in the paint but the mobility to guard pick and rolls.

That's true, look at Durant too. But unlike them, AD's shoulder's are pretty broad, and that's usually a good sign for filling out.

Davis is a 19 year old kid averaging 15/8/2 blks with a 21+ PER, 10 starts into his career. He's fine.

He's dealt with a concussion, a foot injury, and not having the best player on his team around to help get him touches. Its arguable that the Hornets have had ONE other starting caliber player on the entire roster this season, Ryan Anderson. Vaquez has played well in stretches but clearly isn't ideal.

IF Gordon ever gets back, Davis' scoring numbers will definitely spike. Right now nobody on the Hornets roster can create his own shot or drive and finish at the basket. A guy like Gordon who can penetrate on his own and dish to Davis(or kick out to Anderson) will be a huge help to him. At the moment the Hornets offense consists of an endless string of pick and rolls every possession, with someone usually chucking up a bad shot at the end of the shot clock which is why they're one of the lowest scoring teams in the league.

By the end of the season he'll end up being around 18/10/ 2 blks.

I thought AD would be a better defender and shotblocker, but no doubt the potential is there.

What really surprised me is how polished he is on offense. I really thought he'd struggle to score the first few years but hasn't had much problems so far.

He's gonna be a great, great two-way player if he can continue to improve.

How many blocks did people expect Davis to get per game as a rookie, especially after missing games?

He's at 2.1 per 36 minutes, and I'd count on that going up as long as he stays healthy. Patrick Ewing, Tim Duncan, Josh Smith, and Marcus Camby were all in the 2.0 to 2.5 range as rookies(per 36).

Dwight Howard didn't get into the 2+ block per 36 range until his 4th year in the league, and it was exactly 2.1

I want to toot my horn though, my top 3 prospects in this draft were Davis, Drummond, than Lillard. Not sure I'd still have taken Drummond over Lillard like I would have on draft day, but the thought is very intriguing. :D

His shot blocking is good. Just his defense in general wasn't very good when I watched; he covered a lot of ground to block shots but usually he was too slow to rotate or wasn't in good position to contest shots. Like others have said though, these are rookie things that will fix themselves as he gets more experience.

Unless someone has a gun to your head and is making you hit the play button, I don't see the point of this statement.

Terrence Ross has been really great on this winning streak. I'm really liking this pick for the Raptors.
