Do you think Shaq would’ve beat the 2021-2022 warriors with the same supporting cast as Jokic? Like do you really believe that?

No because the Nuggets team is revolved around Jokic. They build this team for him to succeed, which he didn't. I never get that "switch those players" because it never makes sense.

No, they built the 2020 Nuggets for him to succeed. This team has TWO max slots who combined for 9 total games this season.

Woooooow.

Incredibly offensive thing to say about the players.

These are people who spend almost every waking moment of their lives training for a sport. Most of them have no more than one year of a college degree completed (getting a free pass most of the time as the school has a financial incentive to see them do well). Most athletes are going to be dumb because they don't have time to get educated.

You dont need a college degree to be smart, college degrees affords you the necessary skills/training for whatever field you are going into but that doesnt make you inherently "smart" and people without "dumb".

And I dont think the tweet is meant to suggest that, to me he seems to be suggesting people who arent basketball players shouldnt have a vote in things relating to basketball. At least thats what I got from it.

I personally would say that the opinions of Draymond of Gobert hold much more value than 2 players that haven’t been in the league for years like Antoine Walker and Stephen Jackson.

ok

What is this supposed to mean? Is that supposed to prove anything? Two guys trash talking on social media?

Reach a little harder. Maybe you’ll reach the top of Everest if you keep at it

I was only showing you that Gobert has little credibility when it comes to making statements that hold any value as regards to a players performance or his own capabilties.

Do you think Gobert trash talking and defending himself against trash talk is equivalent to him going on ESPN and saying he believes Jokic should be the mvp?

Hard to be MVP when you’re such a defensive sieve. He got absolutely brutally targeted against by the Warriors and that’s never going to change. He’s a huge negative on the defensive side imo. Pretty incredibly good offensive player though.

I mean, people on this very forum argued that Embiid was harder to guard than Shaq and that's why he's fouled so much.

Gobert clamps down Embiid and forces him to shoot 43.6% from the field. In the last 3 years, it's 43%.

The Warriors have two incredibly quick players (one who is one of the GOAT offensive players) who were able to do that. It happens to all bigs.

Do we need to post the 3 minute compilation of offensive GOATs like Precious, OG, Siakam abusing Embiid in the raptors series, or Jimmy Butler manhandling him in the paint last night?

One of the least deserving MVPs in a few years. I like Jokic, but this is a really bad voting result.

The award is deserved and we've known the outcome for awhile now. A sportsbook has been paying out "Jokic wins MVP" bets for maybe like 1-2 weeks already. The sad "well someone made a typing error so that means Embiid is really going to win MVP" stuff was just a reach beyond all reaches.

When the second straw poll came out, with maybe 2+ weeks left in the season, Jokic was up 62-29 over Embiid in first-place votes.

After that poll took place, the Sixers fell from the second seed in the East to fourth, and Embiid lost a head-to-head battle with MVP finalist Giannis. The Sixers also lost to lottery Detroit.

So, Embiid was in bad shape at the time of the straw poll. And things only got worse for him from there.

Then the early actual MVP votes started to trickle out. Again, Jokic with a significant edge.

The only thing left now is to see the final votes. I'm guessing Embiid gets something like 20-30 first place votes, and Jokic doubles him up in that category.

Jokic had more individual wins than Embiid or Giannis, had the first 2000/1000/500 season in NBA history, and set records for the advanced stats of PER, BPM and RAPTOR.

As good of years as Embiid and Giannis had, this was never going to go any other way than how it went. Nor should it have.

I disagree.

What I can say is a lot of players see the game in a one-on-one context very clearly and not a team context as well. I think that's what you are picking up.

Coaches and players like Jokic, LeBron, Green, CP3 see the game in a team context very clearly and that's what we refer to when we say BBIQ. All players do both to some.degree but I do think some really focus on the one on one aspect. Most of their training is about one on one still.

You disagree with what? That basketball players generally aren't recognized for their intellect? I stand by that because its true. When I hear an NBA player speak, I dont think to myself "woah this guy is so well spoken, I want to hear more about what he has to say". Obviously there are some smart players, but most athletes sacrifice intellect in pursuit of physical accomplishments - and that's ok. I love Jokic but that doesn't mean I'm interested in hearing his political or philosophical insights.

Obviously they possess basketball knowledge, but all that is tainted by personal stakes.

No one would ever make the argument that players should referee their own games because refs don't know basketball. There's conflicts of interest there, and its the same thing with the getting to vote for MVP. There's personal grudges and these players know each other on a personal level. Its a bad argument on a lot of levels.

Just watched the Warriors try EVERYTHING to stop Joker....never could. He's much more talented than Giannis. And when Warriors played 76ers, Kevon Looney was able to stifle Embiid.

IMO he's one of most talented center to every play the game.

I’m sure you being a Sixer fan has nothing to do with your opinion on this

He had an all time great season but apparently that makes him “one of the least deserving”

rapstarter wrote:I swear some Sixers fans (more likely Embiid fans) would rather have a **** team and have Embiid win the MVP than have a good supporting cast that helps them contend. And of course, we don't even know how successful his team would have been if its 2nd and 3rd best players were Gordon and Barton. It's already automatic 10 additional losses because Embiid misses more games.

You obviously didn’t watch the sixers especially the first 55-58 games. They were 35-23 at all star break. 31-15 with embiid. Without embiid they were 4-8 without embiid.

The team besides missing Simmons. Had Tobias Harris playing more like a top 80-100 nba player.

Unlike a lot of teams who got hit with Covid within a 2-3 week period. Sixers had 3- 4 plus guys missing in different stretches over 2 months due to Covid.

Which all leads to what I want to stay. Had embiid played those 7-9 extra games when he had Covid with Denver roster. He still gets Denver to 48-50 wins as well with the same roster.

If we want to play analytics. Even in his rookie season all projections had sixers had 50 plus win projection with embiid presence. That was with a 10 win sixers team the year before. Obviously embiid only last 31 games and the team won 28 games in 2016-2017. So it doesn’t matter who embiid plays with in regular season. He’s gonna to win a lot of games with or without talent.

Shaq = "Old man shouts at sky" at this point.

As far as Embiid....like I said in another post, when Kevon Looney can give you major problems and hold you in check...you aren't at the same level as the Joker. Sorry.

Gobert had just as good a case for DPOY as Jokic had for MVP. Guess the voters just pick and choose randomly when they wanna include postseason failures into their narrative

On the subject of MVP opinions of former players/current players, two more people.

Richard Jefferson said he had Giannis and Embiid slightly ahead of Jokic this year
JJ Redick said he would have voted for Jokic

Both were on the same ESPN show today when they made the remarks. Neither has a vote.
