Oh yeah and now I remember why Bob8 is on my foe list since 2017.
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

2018/19 ROY/Rookie Discussion Thread (Pt 2)
I think Joerger comments were taken out of context. It is not like he is wrong to talk about how good Doncic is. Doncic looks fantastic, but I do not think the Kings are having buyers remorse. The Kings plan has been put the ball in Fox’s hands since they drafted him and they are playing above .500 ball because of it
Bagley is going to be a great player. He is already doing good things for the Kings even if his minutes are spotty sometimes.
An NBA career is a race, not a sprint. Doncic will most likely win ROY, but that doesn’t mean he automatically have a better career than Bagley or the Kings are going to regret not drafting Doncic. The landscape of the league can change instantly. I could go through the archives to pull up thread after thread on how players were the next best thing until they just peak and another player gets more attention. Doncic is what is shiny right now ( and he can stay shiny, but you just never know )

i love his improvements so far
Just on Ayton's really good defense in the last 15 games...
Phoenix Suns in their last two games held opponents to under 1pt per possession for the first time 2 years and they did it twice in a row.
Ayton's offense has been a little less aggressive but he's been arguably the best defender of the rookie class in the last month.

Cauley-Stein = solid for a #6 pick.
Hield = could project into an elite shooter but starting to look good for a #7. Another good pick.
Bogdanovic = another really nice looking shooter
Fox = looks the best of the 2017 guard class
Bagley = starting to really look good. Also kind of hard to draft Doncic when he says he has no intention of signing a contract with them.
That is some solid work and 4 out of the 5 are guard/wings which are in high demand.
Hield was #6 bruz

I and1ed you but doncic never said that.
I don’t think there’s a direct quote but it was reported that this was his feeling and I think Woj also repeated it. I’ll try and get the link.

But considering how much KAT's defence is not-great&criticised, I really hope Ayton will develop more into a AD (at least a lite version), so into a great 2-way player, and not into a KAT-like player. I'm not that familiar with NBA history, even more recent one -> what were some great offensive big men rookies that later developed great defense? How "common" is it?
I've got a similar question. Who came in the league and was "known" to be a bad defender and later became a good/great one?
In terms of bigs improving some names that come to mind are:
- Bogut - wasn't seen as a bad defender but was basically an offensive talent who developed into a key defensive player
- Gasol brother - marc wasn't really regarded that highly across the board, the knock on Pau was that he wouldn't be able to physically defend bigs.
- Draymond Green - not sure if he qualifies as a big here, but he was basically regarded as a tweener who would lack speed to defend smaller players and lacked size to defend bigger ones - and developed into an elite defender.
- Jokic has improved defensively on a year to year basis as well
I'm sure there's more that I can't think of.
Ayton is starting to look a lot better as a defender - as are the Suns as a whole (over the past few games) - let's hope he keeps it up and continues to improve

Never happened. He was repeating like a parrot that he doesn’t care where he plays. And his friend Bogdan is playing there.

Would definitely take Sexton and Knox before him.

This is better said than anyway I coudlve said it. This is exactly what I mean. Ingles and Covington just know the game, theyre vets, they rarely make dumb mistakes and they make those crafty little plays all the time that dont really show up on the box sheet, but help impact games. We are talking about 2 guys that would start on any team in the NBA.
And yup this is not me talking ceiling or trade value or anything like that. Im talking strictly level of impact this year. Doncic has shown great flashes, but his impact isnt on those two guys level yet.
And what’s impact of ingles in his club. Has Utah really that much worse roster than Dallas?
I think Utah's roster is better but not playing up to their standard. I dont think its on Ingles that Mitchell is in a bad Soph slump, or Rubio is playing worse, or Crowder and Exum couldnt throw the ball into the ocean if they tried. I dont think that is on Ingles, but that doesnt takeaway from the impact Ingles is having. Again its a noisy stat, but its not a shock Ingles has the best On/Off on his team by almost double.
I think Dallas as a team is playing really good solid basketball. Same goes for Sac. You can look at Fox in a similar way. I can think of 10 PGs that are having a higher impact than Fox this year. Fox has some good raw stats, Sac has a good record, but that doesnt make Fox a top 10 PG yet. He still makes a lot of young mistakes throughout the game.
I have watched Ingles more after this conversation and I can only say that Ingles and Utah are mostly playing like ****, but somehow his RPM is going only up. 4 L in 5 games, with 7/3/5, very bad shooting %, visually bad, and his RPM up in the sky. That more or less buries RPM for me.

Peak Horford (aka Wendell Carter Jr.) is starting to slow down a little.

Here is one link from May 2018, few weeks before draft, where Doncic clearly said that he would prefer to be teammate with Bogdanovic...

He is asked if he would like to play under any Serbian coach and with any Serbian player and he says we would like playing with Bogdanovic - Going to NBA and answering to Serbian media.. quite obvious answer.
He doesn’t mention any preference regarding which team to draft him..

SGA scores 24. I haven't seen a rookie guard with a money midrange like him maybe ever. The guy is pretty much automatic on the pullup from mid. Unguardable when he goes there due to length.
Finally getting around that mini rookie wall last few games.

He is so darn good, if we would have fallen last year, I wanted to draft him. He was in my top 5.

Perhaps....but there were certainly plenty of rumors about it.https://www.businessinsider.com.au/luka-doncic-nba-draft-stay-overseas-2018-5?r=US&IR=T
https://thebiglead.com/2018/05/17/luka-doncic-nba-draft-sacramento-kings-atlanta-hawks/
And a dozen more links are out there with similar sentiments that were never explicitly shut down by Doncic (he never mentioned the Kings nor did he meet or work out with them, thereby adding fuel to the rumors)
And there's no smoke without fire.

He gives me hope for the future man. When I look at some of the all time great PG's I loved like Kidd, Payton, Billups, Cassell (Big PG's)etc his rookie numbers stack up favorably. I just looked it up, the guy shoots 45% from 10-16 and 46% from 16-23. Sam Cassell's 1 on 1 work with him every day is paying off.Johnny Firpo wrote:ClipsFanSince98 wrote:https://youtu.be/PC4t4svunfA
