I seriously don't understand how they couldn't get Covington, an actual nba player, instead of Wiggins. On paper this is one of the worst trades possibly in nba history, but certainly of the last decade.

I'd like to see Draymond try and push Wiggins to actually have a motor and how they interact on the floor, etc. That alone would be entertaining to me, and I am very curious how all this turns out.

Dallas could've still taken in Iggy's contract no issue
Memphis essentially held onto Iggy for half a year and got Justise Winslow and a 2024 1st for it...the Warriors got robbed, pointblank. they knew Myers was in a tough spot and milked him and he let it happen.
That's doesn't mean they were willing without sending salary or getting a pick back.
then don't do the trade, that's part of the negotiation. either they take Iggy, who is an asset all to himself essentially for free, or walk away. the idea that we NEEDED to give Dlo 30mil a pop is nonsensical.
we ended up essentially trading Justise Winslow/2024 FRP for Wiggins/2021 FRP...Myers got his clock cleaned.
That's a ridiculous way of looking at this, unless you knew the future and could predict Steph's injury. It's also short sighted.
When the trade was made last year Steph wasn't hurt, Warriors were thought to be fighting for a playoff spot, and had a thin and aging roster. Myers rightly decided that getting a young asset was an improvement over a washed up Iggy. The roster badly needed an injection of talent while the window to challenge for a title is still open, and 2024 pick doesn't do that. 2021 pick, potentially does, so in terms of helping to compete right now, 2012 FRP in the deepest draft in a while >>>> 2014 FRP.
Also, you're making Winslow out to be a star player. He's an average starter at best who was just traded for 1 year of Iggy, which speaks volumes about his value. Salaries don't matter as the Warriors are capped out in the near future regardless.
Having Wiggins gives Warriors a 3rd scoring option which was lacking in the past couple of seasons, and also gives them a large contract that can be packaged with picks if a right player is available. Just keeping Iggy would have left Warriors with no options other than try to fill the roster with vet min guys.

This feels like a clown show. Yes, if nba talent were broken into tiers, the more tiers Wiggins dropped he would eventually become the best player in that tier.
And so for the Warriors specifically, Wiggins as the 4th best player is an improvement for them over DLo.
Yes?
Well you changed the question but i would have kept Dlo for the time being and made Klay play the 3. Dlo relieves curry of ball handling duties on offense. Remember, Iggy and Livingston is no longer there and klay creates for no one.

That’s crazy. GSW can’t play DLo next to Curry. SGs would destroy them.
Your bias is showing so I’ve made my point:
You refuse to even discuss the point if Wiggins is the 4th best player on your team then you’re looking pretty good.
It’s a simple enough point to acknowledge.
You don’t want to.
It will be acknowledged in NBA games whether you like it or not.

Well of course I have a bias, Wiggins is not good that's no secret

Well of course I have a bias, Wiggins is not good that's no secret. And I would have like to see curry next to DLo to see if it would or wouldn't have worked. They played 4 games together but not only that, the team is a G league team. That deal could have been made at anytime. There's a reason golden state is being killed for doing this deal. I Definately wouldn't want him on the Lakers as my fourth best player, I'll keep Danny green for half the price.
Alright so the defending champs have a better fourth player than GSW.
Stop the presses! This is outrageous!

They will be by the time Curry and Klay are both back (and that’s when Wiggins becomes fourth best player on GSW).
There’s a small group of teams with better 4th options, and those teams are all very good to excellent. Barnes won chips. Wiggins > Barnes.

See the Jimmy Butler situation and how that worked lol.
I'm actually hoping Wiggins shuts ppl up and balls out in Gstate. Think he'll be great once curry and Klay come back. A much better fit than what Russell would have provided.

Haven't read through the thread, but has anyone mentioned that Wiggins has failed upwards rather spectacularly? Hoped for potential? Huge contract. Didn't realize potential? Traded to GSW. Amazing.

All these people here saying Wiggins can turn it around are the same people ripping on him when he was in Minny. Good luck with that.

Pretty sure Wiggins took little shots at Thibs and Butler after they got moved, saying something along the lines of "yelling isn't coaching." So I'm sure he will respond great with Draymond there.

Don't disagree.
But neither were even ranked in espn's top 100 last fall. Nor any other legitimate site. DLo was ranked 26th. Just sayin'. Some of the "rubes" here think they know what they're talking about.....but in reality they know nothing.

Comical. You have no idea how miserable this is. In Minnesota things have been bad for a long time. I thought Wiggins was untradeable and it would until his contract expired for the team to have hope. I cant recall a time when things looked bleaker. Its a very long story, and I believed in Wiggins through bad times. But the guy has no energy for the game some nights.
I have read most of the thread. One thing that isnt mentioned a lot is Wiggins ball skills are really bad. (His handles) After a couple of years NBA defenses figured out how to slow him when he moved to the rim. Just take a poke at the ball, play ball not the player. Wiggins never really has overcome that.
Early in his career I defended Wiggins when people called him lazy. But after Butler left and I paid more attention. Sometimes he just loafs up down the floor and is disinterested.
Golden State has a great environment. If they cant fix Wiggins no one will.
Great person Andrew is, poor basketball player

Covington isn't going to move the needle. They need someone who can stay on the floor athletically with elite wings. He doesn't have to be more than a #3 or 4 scorer to succeed. If they can work on his jumper and get him to play some D, it can work.
It's not exciting like acquiring Simmons or whatever but this is a bet on the pre-KD dubs roster. I don't know why people are upset isn't what you wanted for GSW to not try and raid Giannis / Simmons and just run back in 2021 with the original big 3 plus help?

Golden State took quite the gamble here.
Gamble is the right way to put it. Clearly DLo wasn't going to take us anywhere, and we need someone with different skills than him. The issue is that we're banking on either:
1) Wiggins improving under the GState culture (he probably will, but how much is hard to say)
2) That 2021 pick turning into a nice player
Wiggins turnovers and bad 3P shooting don't bode well. I'll try to be optimistic, but it's tough. The only upside is that from stats his defense doesn't look quite as bad as it does when watching. Hopefully the Warrior Way can convince him to play harder on D more consistently -- that's what we need more than anything. I doubt he will ever develop a good 3. I wish we got a different player or 2 good rotation players but it doesn't sound like we had those options.
Yep watched him for five years now, and never seen such gloom in Wolf basketball as in the last year and a half. (Which here in Minnesota is a mouthful.) What gets overlooked, is what you said about his turnovers. Good defenders poke the ball out of his hands when he starts attacking the rim. Wiggins gets disinterested and starts loafing out on the perimeter.
Another overlooked point is that Wiggins is soft. Physical contact does take him out of the game. There were times when I thought the Wolves had only 4 players on the court, Wiggins was loafing out there. If you see enough of it, its sick to watch. He joggs up and down the court doing nothing and it looks like it takes such a big effort on his part to move his feet.
Great guy, really bad basketball player. Didnt think he was tradeable
