So the NBA has basically forced some teams who are fighting for playoff spots to essentially play games they had no chance to win, while they're allowing the teams any conspiracy theorists would pick as NBA favourites, to postpone games. Shocker.

Even if you don't believe in the conspiracy, the handling of all this has been poor and disjointed at best. They need to put forfeits on the table.

I think the NBA is forcing teams to play if they had a chance rather than picking and choosing. I mean who wants to give out refunds.

Is the entire Hawks team unvaxxed? They have been missing their entire team to protocols for what feels like 2 weeks.

Why arent their players testing out of protocols?

The team was vaccinated fully. This is the Omicron variant that ignores vaccinations. And apparently some of our guys with it are really sick with it and can't test out of the protocols yet. This is a pandemic, remember. Not everyone is going to bounce right back after getting this.

Just seems like bad luck for the Hawks. Every other team is getting it but are having players test out immediately or their players are all asymptomatic.

Pause the season.

This is pathetic.

It's also timing, iiuc. The guys they have that can test out are still under the 10-day rules for some dumbarse reason, so they can't come back.

Meanwhile, this guy eviscerates the league's handling of this outbreak ...

Feds have just changed their guidelines, allowing asymptomatic folks to come back in half the time, and lessened precautions. Have to assume the NBA will make those changes post haste.

Whole thing is a joke at this point. I'll state again, if they were facing a forfeit they would've found bodies.

Adam Sliver is the Al Bundy of commissioners. He had his 4 touchdown game in high school (the Clippers owner thing) but hasn't done anything worthwhile since.

You know Denver was on the same exact end against the Nets a week ago , the Nets weren't forced to forfeit the game either, why should the Nuggets  Its not their fault that their players got it from GS players , the Nuggets already are missing lots of players because of injuries, how they are supposed to sign, 4,5 players on the short notice like this

Hawks continue to be punished with mandatory losses with non NBA rosters while other teams openly flout the rules and refuse to sign players to get their games postponed.

Ok, all that tells me is the Nets should've faced possible forfeiture as well.

If so, they would've found 4-5 bodies and the game would be played.

I'll say it another way. The Bulls were on the same end the Hawks were, but they weren't forced to sign 4-5 random players to go out and lose like Atlanta has the past 2 weeks.

Wait - NBA teams can still postpone games? The Raptors were forced to play with a roster of:

Yuta Wantanabe
DJ Wilson
Chris Boucher
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
Dalano Banton
Tremont Waters
Juwan Morgan
Daniel Oturu

Most of these guys aren't even part of their G league team. 4 of these guys literally met the rest of the team 2 hours before the game.

They lost by 45 points, missing a team record for point differential in losses by 1 point.

You can't tell me this business isn't shady. What a joke and an embarrassment of a league.

It's a slap in the face to the competitive teams which is ironic since Silver added the play-in to add more competitive teams. Imagine if he added a mid-season tournament with these COVID-19 ravaged teams.

The league is lucky there is the NFL ongoing or this would be more public than it is.

I think the NBA is just going to continue to ride this out. They're probably thinking all these guys should be coming back soon and they'll be done with it. Which kind of makes the case for just pausing the system so they can get all these positives out of the system without affecting the w-l column in an unfair manner. Now if they have a second wave of some of these guys testing positive again in the spring then I think it'll highlight the overall problem we've been having with this pandemic from day 1 which is faulty testing and the creators of these tests still not understanding the difference mechanisms of the virus.. like the immune system not clearing dead floating spike in the time they think it does or spike from vaccination lingering in the system longer than they are saying and triggering positive test results weeks or months after vaccination.

People are so fired up about other teams getting games postponed when their team was "forced to play."

The rules are the same for every team. If you have 8 healthy players you play, if you don't you don't. If a team doesn't want to play, all they have to do is stay under 8 available players.

So... don't sign enough hardship guys in time. Or say someone sprained his ankle or has back spasms and you only have 7 available players. Boom, you don't have to play. There are many simple ways for teams to control their own destiny here if they so choose.

And imo it's not some awesome gift to get a game postponed anyway. The game still has to be played and there's no guarantee that a team will want to play it when it's rescheduled any more than they want to play it now. If anything teams are probably thinking they don't want a bunch of extra games in the last couple weeks of the RS when they are trying to be rested and healthy for the playoffs. Not to mention there could very well be a new COVID variant hitting the league at the end of the season.
