Pistons have had our number all year. And now we have to play y'all on the second night of a b2b after playing in OT lol. Cade's played very well against us, as well.

If you're asking me if I'd rather have a player who can put the ball on the ground and initiate an offense, over one who relies on his teammates setting him up to score most of his points, the answer is pretty obvious to me.

Scottie Barnes might finish 3rd in the ROY race but he has as much talent as any player I've ever seen play for the Raptors. It will be really fun to watch him develop.

to me, he hasnt made much leap other than volume scoring part. if he wants beat mobley, he has to edge him out in shooting and playmaking. defensively has no chance against a 7ft giant.

whether he is really talented will be tested on the playoffs. i expect him to beat bulls, cle easily if he is as good as advertised instead of putting up numbers in rs. if toronto cannot beat atlanta, hornets middling team there is no hope they dont have any more lotto picks left this is their entire future to contend for a title.

What an amazing game by Barnes. Was it the best game by a rookie this season?

Barnes has all the making of a surefire perennial all-star and all-timer. Just strikes me as a hard working guy who has a great head on his shoulder.

And I think that Cade & Mobley are on the same path as well, too.

Lmao what? Barnes is 20, Achiuwa is 22, Trent Jr. is 23, OG is 24. Toronto is hardly a finished product and Barnes won't be judged off a single play-in game or playoff series in his rookie season.

Gotta say, as of today, I’m leaning Barnes. Impressive stuff.

I think Cade has the rarest skills but the least current impact on winning. Mobley is also a rare breed, with better stats than Cade.

But rookie of the year isn’t about future impact or uniqueness. Barnes is special himself, and he’s really picked it up as the season has gone on. He’d have my vote.

I wasn’t the biggest Barnes guy earlier in the season, but I have to admit he’s special. It’s very impressive how efficiently he can create for himself around the basket. He’s got insane strength for a 20 year old. He needs a better shot to get to that next level, but Raptors have a pretty good track record in that field. Once he gets a reliable 10-14 footer and a ~34% 3 point shot he is going to be a monster. I love Franz but I don’t think any rookie right now comes close to Barnes’ self-creation ability, which is a pretty damn good predictor of his future success, giving his physique.

One thing I've noticed about Barnes all year is that he sometimes makes shots look so easy, despite the fact that the defender is right there. I believe Nick Nurse mentioned something the other day about his timing on his shots contributing to that, so I've been trying to pay attention to it.

This video shows that a bit. The timing of his shots, and even his shot angles around the rim are almost never the same. Sometimes his feet are planted, sometimes it's mid-stride, right hand, left hand, etc. This helps keep the defenders off balance - they really have no idea when or where his shots are going to come from. Because of that you'll see a bunch that don't even really look contested even though the defender is right on him. That's a very unique and interesting skill.
