Because their TEAM exceeded I think everyone's expectations. If you remember, everyone laughed at me when I said Oklahoma was a playoff team.

I understand that but many people expected the Cavs to fall off this year. Most people had them third in the conference. Not only are they first in the league, but LeBron has carried them through virtually everyone else being injured. Durant has been great, but other than scoring, how much does he really contribute to that team?

So let me get this straight. LeBron shouldn't be MVP because he already won one, and Durant should be MVP because he exceeded your expectations.

pretty solid logic really

Kobe is more clutch. Lebron is a chucker.

The only reason Durant's not in MVP discussions is because they are the OKLAHOMA CITY Thunder. If Durant were on the Cavs instead of LeBron, Durant gets the mvp.

Oh! Really?

http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm

...and then we get to Kobe Bryant. Kobe fans don't like to hear it, but while their man is #4 in the league in total game winners hit, he holds the top spot in a less glamorous category:most game winning opportunity missed shots!
42 - Kobe
35 - Vince Carter
33 - Joe Johnson, LeBron
32 - Crawford
31 - Billups
Now we're not Kobe haters by any means and I will readily give him his due as one of the best NBA players (note however, I didn't say the best) but he certainly has an overblown reputation when it comes to the clutch shot: people remember the ones he hits, but not the ones he misses, and heck you think a 56 FGA to 1 assist ratio might be part of the problem? He does have a better record in the playoffs though, which we'll get to down below.

So Kobe's previous rings mean he should be the MVP THIS year? Interesting. And LeBron 4th? You are a troll and a hater.

Since James is in Cleveland, it makes the city relevant immediately. Although I believe Durant deserves the MVP, I expect Bron to get it. Give Durant another year or two with sick numbers and he'll put Oklahoma City on the map. Remember when LeBron was putting up huge numbers and couldn't seem to get the MVP? Same scenario here. Durant will get his in due time.

Dwight 2011-2012 - 20.6 Points - 14.5 Rebounds - 2.1 Blocks

LeBron's putting up much more impressive numbers now than then, and he's doing it while leading an elite team. I don't think it's crazy if you think he should have won an MVP before last year, but let's not pretend that LeBron hasn't made some obvious improvements in the mean time.

Get back to us when Durant can finish a year with more assists than turnovers. That shouldn't be too much to ask of an "MVP" who plays on the perimeter.

In fact, Durant ranks dead last in assist to turnover ratio for qualified players. Not sure what the criteria is to be qualified, but he's last out of 82...and by a healthy margin too.

He's the most efficient volume scorer in the NBA and only 21. He's a better scorer at 21 than LeBron is at 25...and he's not a point guard he's a forward.
