Re: 2016-17 MVP Discussion Thread
If CP3, Melo, Lebron, Wade are thinking about it, no reason those three would not consider that option at some late point of their career. I am willing to trade anything to watch them play together for one more season. China, Ukraine, anywhere, IDC. Every year, all star break, watching them three hang out together makes me feel sad.

I don't see how anyone who actually watched the game came away with pro Curry/anti KD remarks ...is the only thing you guys look at is plus/minus ?
Curry was practically a defensive liability out there and couldn't stop fouling, didn't shoot particularly well, didn't pass the ball well...KD and Draymond clearly had better games and the reason they were even in the game but whoopty do Cury and Iggy had the prettier looking plus/minus
Curry is great and the offense looks better when he is on the floor but damn.

Harden should be number 1 right now

In cases like this I try to imagine how and whether putting one player in the other one's shoes would improve the team they are in.
If Westbrook was playing for Golden State and Durant for OKC, the rosters would have been:
Golden State
Curry
Westbrook
Thompson
Green
Pachulia
OKC
Oladipo
Roberson
Durant
Sabonis
Adams
Do either of the teams improve or are they both worse off?
Come on. Lacking a good play-maker, that OKC team with Durant would be lucky to make the playoffs. I doubt they would make it in, frankly.
That GSW team with Westbrook would still likely make it to the WCF, and maybe to the NBA Finals. (I think they'd lose to Cleveland, though, without additional big men on the roster.)
More importantly, remove Westbrook (without adding anybody), and OKC is a lottery team. Remove Durant (without adding anybody), and GSW is still competitive through the 2nd round of the playoffs. (As others have noted, with the exception of losing Bogut, their core is basically a team that won 73 games last year....)
I'm surprised that there's not more James Harden love on this thread. He's also putting up a near triple-double, on a team with arguably worse personnel than OKC, yet leading them to a better record. Simply phenomenal performance this year. As the MVP choice comes down a lot of times to narrative, I think Harden (with Westbrook) has to be the favorite this year.
I dislike his play style, but Harden is right there. He could get my vote, if Houston is a 3/4 seed or better and he keeps thus up.
Subtle stuff, but at GS game i saw Harden coaching and encouraging his mates from bench during rest times. I think has matured somewhat about stat hogging and involving the bench from GS/Spurs/Cavs success.

Yeah that was not a good game for Curry. But it was one game (I understand National TV games count for 5x to the public but still). Durant did implode in OT once Curry fouled out though, which was noted by some. Could have been fatigue, could have been them being able to isolate him more. More likely a mix of the two.

Curry didn't have a good game and the reason they went to OT was because KD was having a great game. However when Steph went out, Warriors played like the chucking OKC who would never win the ring with KD and Russ that we've seen over the years. To me, KD has been the best player in the NBA this year while Steph has quietly been the 6-7th best and is still easily the most important player in that team. However, I am shocked how well KD has gelled with the team (forget his GOAT level shooting), he is playing the Warrior style of ball far better than Klay does for example. He offers the team a ton as well, and is playing the type of ball that I imagine that he could in a dream-like scenario. Except that it's reality.

To be fair to Klay I think he actually passed a couple times last week. KD and Curry and Dray are unselfish tho, I can't say I'm too shocked that they gelled so quick offensively. We even saw it in preseason for the most part.

I think KD has it as of right now. By far the best defense of any of the other candidates and his efficiency is insane

It's good to see that his elite D this season is getting some recognition. Because of it, he has a pretty good case for MVP for sure. That said, if he doesn't win MVP, I would be happy if Harden gets it. He has been really awesome so far.

Yeah I think he deserves to be in the lead. Especially after leading Rockets to an epic win vs GSW few days ago. He deserves lots of credit for that.

I think you definitely need to give Harden his props. He's the focal point of his team's offense and he's doing his job well.

It warms my heart to see non-Rockets fans speaking so positively about James Harden...
But I've got a bottle of Scotch bet on Westbrook, so I have to keep cheering for that!
Maybe in a nice '95 Admiral over Dream way

Re: 2016-17 MVP Discussion Thread
after a unanimous selection of MVP last season. the race for this year's award is looking so competitive. and we will most likely see an mvp from out of the first three ranks which is a pretty rare situation in the nba history. so harden and westbrook must be considered as top tiers as of now like mentioned above.

They're 4/5 seeds with little signs of improving on that. They're not running away with anything from an MVP perspective. The lowest seed you're going to find in the last 30 years to win MVP is Jordan in 88 as a T-3rd seed. He put up 35/6/6 +3 stls 1.5 blks as the best offensive player in the game and the DPOY. Just a bit of perspective.

so from that perspective can we say kyrie irving has more chances than westbrook or harden?
