The real question is what is the Suns team approach to guarding Kobe, and their team approach to guarding the Lakers. Are they going to double Kobe and in what situations, where is the double coming from, which gaps are you staying soft in, where are you forcing the ball on your rotation off the double, ect. These things will matter a lot more than Grant Hill on Kobe. Anyway, I think the Lakers feel that they have the advantage inside and will try to play inside out through Gasol much of this series.

It's well known that team D is more important than man D. So thanks for that, Copernicus.

But there's been a clear man defensive strategy out there for Kobe for a while now. Larger, long-armed defenders who play conservatively, looking to just contest well instead of go for the highlight play. If the matchup didn't matter, there wouldn't be a cross-match done specifically so that J-Rich keeps the hell away from guarding Bryant.

I say let Kobe average 35 for the series, but the Suns have to contain Gasol to stand a chance.

It would be nice if they didn't call a foul on Hill everythime Kobe pushes him.

yeah, it'd be nice if the refs called a moving screen on kg once in a while.

He got away with a lot of physical play early, he could have easily had 3 or 4 fouls in the first half.

That said I think his strategy was to garner sympathy for getting his foot broken again :)

Hill did fine but the refs don't allow anyone the opportunity to slow down Kobe. They'll call ticky-tack foul after ticky-tack foul on anyone who challenges him.

Did you see Kobe battling for position on the mid-block? That's not exactly ticky-tack.

Kobe did his thing while playing conservatively you have to admire the fact that he didn't feel the need to go all out this game but still dropped 40 !

Not sure what else Grant could do he generally wasn't too far out of position... If some of the other Suns played defense suns could have definitely kept the Lakers lead at around 15.

The play where Brown kicked that Suns player to the ground for the offensive foul, excuse me, I mean two free throws?
Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?
