1) This would ensure that no one team can dominate with just superstar players. A guy like Lebron can at best play and affect 45 min(even less if you remove halftime and timeouts). You want to build a "superteam" with just 3 superstars? No problem, we'll beat you with the 4th-18th guys.

2) This would allow a ton of fringe NBDL players, Euros, and maybe even Asians to play in the league, truly making it a worldwide sport.

3) The current players would not object because their salaries are not reduced, nor their playing time increased(though you'd think that they'd want to play even more, as opposed to sitting on the bench), nor decreased.

4) The length of the game can be reduced by removing timeouts, halftime, and free throws. Plus, baseball is long and people don't seem to have a problem.

5) The only bad thing about this is that it breaks tradition, but really, who cares about that. This satisfies everyone currently, and that should be all that matters.

1. Either that, or you're allowing a superstar to more or less coast so that he can play 50+ minutes. When a player coasts, it waters down the entertainment value of the event. Next.

2. So, you want players who aren't talented enough, or ready, to be real contributors in the league to be earning an NBA paycheck and again, watering down the product by decreasing the overall talent? What happens when a Kobe or LBJ or Durant plays against the 18th guy on the team? Next.

3. So, once a superstar is done for the game, or worn out, he has to sit and wait almost another entire game watching potentially mediocre players play when they'd likely rather shower and go see their family or hit the clubs. Next.

4. Basketball is NOT baseball. First and foremost. Fans would simply get bored with a 90 minute game that doesn't promise the excitement that it does in a 48-minute game. Removing timeouts is a killer of team strategy, and between timeouts and halftime, that's where a lot of sponsors make their big bucks. Next.

5. Who cares about tradition? Wow. Great argument. Fail.

Wow, the Lakers wouldn't have a stood a chance to win the title in '09 or '10. Their bench sucked compared to what the Magic and Suns had, just to name two of the deepest teams they faced.

This would ruin the nba entirely, people would be retiring at age 29-30, injuries would be happening left and right

Not that I would want to start a major drug debate, but cocaine doesn't make you come up with ideas like this. LSD maybe, cocaine no.

lets add random pitfalls in the court while we're at it, make it more interesting, the pitfalls lead to an underground court where the people that fell into those holes have to play a mini game of basketball, whoever scores 10 points first gets to come back up

My jesus lord.

OP, you got it. Such frighteningly impressive intelligence you've displayed could transcend reality and perhaps even tilt balance of gravitational pull. You are so awesomely cool and smart.

In light of "making the game more exciting" I think the NBA should consider these:

-Remove the defensive three second rule OR go back to man-to-man only. It's terrible that they're trying to get a mix of both. I don't understand why they wanted to do this quasi zone idea.
-Shot clock violations should be waived off if the defensive team gets a rebound that does not hit the rim.
-Use of replay should be done if a coach challenges it with a time out, NFL style. This I think allows any kind of play reviewable since right now they can only review some that fall under a somewhat narrow guideline.
-Five second rule, this will encourage team play and will do away with a lot of one on five stuff.
-four point line anyone?

7 pages later and still doesn't like the idea is any better than when it was in the OP's head.

90 minutes of game play? Are you kidding, you want to add 42 minutes of game play to NBA games but you want players 8 through 25 playing those minutes? That is the most rediculous thing. The league is already dilluted enough with the talent they have.

"Talent" and "dilution" are relative terms. What if this country didn't have Blacks, for example? You'd be watching Euros and Whites shooting, essentially 60's basketball, anyway.
